Players showcased their ability to dominate down low, while others used their all-around game to help their team win the game. While not all the players mentioned were part of the winning team, their individuals efforts definitely stood out. Here are the biggest winners from the second day of the Shore Classic Showcase.
Oumar Diahame, 6’10 C Patrick School National 2020
The Senegalese big man absolutely dominated Peddie on the inside. He showed off his range with a corner three-pointer and threw down a pair of thunderous dunks in the first half. Diahame skied for rebounds on both ends of the floor and swatted six shots on the game. He was an absolute force down low and was a big reason for the Celtics’ 81-49 victory over Peddie.
Moses Pierre, 6’0 PG Irvington 2020
Pierre struggled with foul trouble, but that did not stop him from scoring a game-high 22 points. The senior guard lived at the basket as Wall could not stop him from getting to the paint. He was also a menace on the offensive glass as he hauled in four offensive rebounds on the game. Pierre played a complete game for Irvington and knocked down clutch free throws to keep the Blue Knights undefeated on the season.
Najae Hallenbeck, 6’6 PF Toms River North 2020
The Mariners were unable to upset undefeated Rutgers Prep, but that does not diminish Hallenbeck’s performance. The 6’6 power forward was unstoppable down low as he dropped 25 points and 12 rebounds against the Argonauts. Hallenbeck showcased a soft touch around the basket and knew how to bury his man in the post. Toms River North needs Hallenbeck to be a complimentary scorer to Jakari Spence and his performance against Rutgers Prep is a great sign.
Trey Patterson, 6’7 SF Rutgers Prep 2021
Patterson has been on a tear of late and continued that with another strong performance against Toms River North. The star 6’7 forward knocked down perimeter jump shots, attacked the basket hard and skied for rebounds on both ends of the floor. The junior’s strong all-around performance resulted in his fifth consecutive 20-10 game as he finished up with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Patterson is playing like a First Team All-State player and did it again at the Shore Classic Showcase.
Andrew Rowley, 6’1 SG Columbia 2022
The Cougars’ dominated Long Branch from start to finish and Rowley was a big reason why. The 6’1 sophomore was constantly getting to the rim as Long Branch could not keep him out of the lane. Rowley also knocked down a three-pointer and played tough defense on the perimeter. If Rowley can continue to play like he did against Long Branch, than Columbia is going to be a tough out in the state tournament.
Tahj Parland, 5’9 PG Mater Dei 2020
The Seraphs were unable to knock off Don Bosco Prep, but Parland was at times the best player on the floor. The 5’9 senior had a pair of buzzer beaters in the game, including a 60-foot heave before the half. Parland was a blur in transition as he used his speed to give himself easy layups. He finished up with a game-high 21 points, showing that Parland can compete with anyone.
