Continue ReadingDeerfield 2020 center Brandon Lieb is one of the better post players remaining on the board in the state of Illinois. The 6’11” center has good size and length. Frame to continue to add strength once he gets in a college weight program. One aspect of his offensive game that is impressive is how he always keeps the ball high so guards can’t swipe it away. He garners deep post position so on the catch it is over when he gets the ball. Gets on the offensive glass for put backs. Shows mobility in the pick and roll. Defensively he is a shot blocking presence with his timing. Moves decent in ball screens for a player his size. We caught up with him to discuss his senior season.
“It’s going pretty good. We have been a little bit streaky so far this season. We are trying to get everything together. We have a high ceiling. We showed some good flashes. Once we get everything together I think we will be pretty good.”
Lieb spoke about the areas of his game he has been focusing on improving.
“I worked a lot in the offseason on my shot. I have been shooting from the outside on threes and jump shots. It has improved my free throw percentage more. Trying to stay physical down low.”
For coaches that haven’t seen him what does he bring to the table?
“I like to run the floor and play up and down. Use my length. I am a shot blocker and rim protector. Pretty much all-around for a big guy. Mobile.”
Where do things stand with recruiting?
“Right now I am still talking with a bunch of schools and am not leaning toward anything. I am not sure if something doesn’t come along during this year wait until the spring. I have been talking with American University and a lot of Patriot League schools. Mostly mid-majors.”
He told us the schools that have been in the most communication recently.
“American. My coaches have talked with Tulsa a little bit. Some other Ivy Leagues. Cornell I was talking to as well.”
Lieb currently checks in as the #37 overall prospect in the 2020 class and #6 center.
