Continue ReadingAs the basketball season winds down and conference tournaments begin, Reece Robinson and the Blackfoot Broncos are 3-1 in the 4A High Country Conference. The Broncos are in second place behind Idaho Falls High School, who they have yet to play. The Broncos final 6 games of the regular season are all conference games.
Robinson has his eyes set on the State Tournament, “My goal this year is to help get us to the state tournament because we’ve fallen short of that goal the past two years.” Robinson started playing on the varsity as a Sophomore, “I started playing varsity my sophomore year for Blackfoot High School. I played more of a shooting guard that year and transitioned into a point guard my junior year. As a senior, I’m now running the point full time.” This year the Broncos have 7 seniors on the varsity only having lost 2 seniors from last years team.
Since he was 8 years old Robinson has been playing competitive basketball. This last spring he played for Idaho Select in the Nike Hoops Summit, in Beaverton Oregon, the West Coast Challenge in Anaheim California and the Northwest Premier Invitational in Boise,Idaho. Playing in these tournaments benefited Robinson, “It has helped me gain more confidence by playing against tougher competition.” Robinson had fun this summer with Idaho Select, “I loved being able to meet different players from across the state and work with a variety of people. I also love working with new coaches and hearing new ideas, critiques, and having them challenge me individually.”

His speed also makes him a good defender who can pressure the opposing teams point guard and create turnovers. Robinson is averaging 15 pts, 1.6 steals, 2.6 assists, and 2.8 reb per game and is an 86% free throw shooter. “I think I’m a versatile point guard because I can create my own shots, but also create shots for my teammates. Luckily, I’m pretty quick, which helps make up for my lack of height. I do have a 38” vertical leap, which helps me get my shot off against longer players. I’m trying to become a more vocal leader on my team.”
Playing basketball has helped Robinson in all aspects of life, “It has helped me to set goals and achieve them. It’s taught me how to lose and overcome obstacles. It’s taught me the value of hard work. I like the quick pace, quick situational decision making and how the momentum can change at anytime.”
Basketball isn’t the only sport Robinson is good at. “I was All-State DB in football and All-conference WR & DB. I participate in track and placed 6th in the Long Jump at the state track meet last spring.” Along with being a successful multi-sport athlete he is also a good student with a 3.45 GPA.
