Most Intriguing Prospects: Cary Grove vs Glenbrook South

A pair of 17-2 teams matched up for the championship at the Lake Zurich MLK Tournament on Monday afternoon as Glenbrook South took on Cary Grove for the championship. This one was tight throughout with both teams looking like it was their game to lose. In the end though Cary Grove came up victorious 66-65 as a deep three missed at the buzzer. Here are our Most Intriguing Prospects: Cary Grove vs Glenbrook South!

Beau Frericks (Cary Grove – 2020)

Frericks has been a Prep Hoops Illinois favorite for a long time. The Lewis commit is an absolute steal at the D2 level. He is an elite shot maker from three. Connected on a handful from beyond the arc including banking one in to start and drilling a incredibly deep one late that was a huge shot for his team. Can shoot it off the bounce, pulling up, or off the catch. Much more than just a shooter however as he showcased his shifty ball handling juking defenders creating points for himself and others. Had an impressive take where he split the defense for a bucket. Crisp passer that got his big man the ball and found his shooter for spot up threes. Went for 24 points.

Frank Jakubicek (Cary Grove – 2020)

This Belmont commit is one of the top power forwards in the state. Quality size and strength at 6’8”, but is actually very light on his feet for how strong he is. Jakubicek is efficient with his shots in the paint using spin moves and his mobility to score. Flew in for a couple put backs. Even had a sweet euro step in the open floor. Solid shot blocker swatting a pair. He had 18 points.

Ryan Weaver (Cary Grove – 2021)

Weaver was the x-factor for Cary Grove. The 6’2” junior was lethal from beyond the arc. The lefty spaced the floor connecting on four from deep. His shooting opened up room for Frericks driving and Jakubicek’s post game. Finished with 13 points.

Dominic Martinelli (Glenbrook South – 2020)

At 6’5” Martinelli is a face up four man that is incredibly crafty! He has such a knack for drawing contact and getting to the foul line at a high rate. Feel for creating the foul and getting the shot up on drives along with shots in the paint. He has a slo-mo game where he doesn’t seem like he is going fast, but consistently gets in the lane with spin moves and euro steps. Also a solid passer that gets others involved. Martinelli went for 21 points. More D2’s need to jump in as he is an impact recruit at that level!

Cooper Noard (Glenbrook South – 2022)

Noard continues to see his stock go up every time we evaluate him. The 6’0” point guard is like a younger version of Frericks in many respects. Gritty leader at the point that has a floater game in the lane. Plus three point shooter that has deep range on his shot. Hit several of them with excellent form. Gets after it on the defensive end and is a sound playmaker as a passer. He had 22 points.

Stevon Boyd (Glenbrook South – 2020)

Boyd made an impression early on in this game with his slick takes to the hoop. The 6’0” guard got in the lane splitting the defense for runners and layups including banking one in finishing with 12 points.
