Game Of The Night: Shadow Ridge vs Arbor View What Did I Learn?

In what has been a tough week if your a fan of the sport of basketball. Monday's Shadow Ridge vs Arbor View is a game that would have put a smile on your face. Both teams showed the heart and passion in a hard fought game. "The Mamba Mentality" was on full display in this one. The story of this game was runs. Arbor View jumped out to an early five point lead. Than Shadow Ridge had an amazing second quarter outscoring Arbor View 35-8. Before the game ended Arbor View went on a run themselves but it wasn't enough to counteract what Shadow Ridge already did and Shadow Ridge pulled out a hard fought 92-87 victory.

1) It was the ultimate team win for Shadow Ridge

It is not a secret that Arbor View is one of the better teams in all of the state. Shadow Ridge had the difficult task of marching into a tough road environment and playing a talented and deep Arbor View team led by a number of fantastic seniors Donovan Yap, Mikey Medlock and company. Shadow Ridge didn't shy away from the challenge and they came to play and they went for the juggular. As I stated up top the second half was a dominant half for Shadow Ridge as they set the tone in the game jumping out to a 35-8 half. In order to win you need a strong performance from a multiutde of people and Shadow Ridge's talent matched with Arbor View's talent. Every starter for Shadow Ridge scored in double figures. The key for me was being able to control the boards. Arbor View is one of the better rebounding teams in the state. In fact, Arbor View had two guys that were double figures in rebounds Jaylon Lee 12 and David Moore 10. However, Shadow Ridge's team rebounding was better and they out rebounded their foe 46 to 36. The key to this win EVERYONE contributed!

2) Caleb Celeste had a career game

Jr. Caleb Celeste would get a game ball from me in this one in order to win a game of this magnitude you need 100% effort from everyone and that is what Celeste gave. Celeste had a season high for him in points and rebounds he scored 16 points and 7 rebounds and he added 2 steals he had an overal solid day. It was a much needed performance for such a big win for his team. He made his living on the offensive side of the ball in this one with mid range shots completing 60% of his shot on team 10 attemps. He could do no wrong in this game.

3) DJ Turner is making a case for himself

I mentioned "Mamba Mentality" up top and that is exactly what this kid has. His competitive nature and never shying away from big moments is something I really admire. Turner played that "Gumbo" game what I mean by that he had a little bit of everything as he has all year. Turner was consistent in this contest he had 12 points 4 rebounds 4 assits and 2 steals. What makes Shadow Ridge special is they have a few of these type of players on this team. What impressed me the most was the defense that Shadow Ridge played on Donovan Yap. Turner himself had a lot of tough individual defense on him. Yap had probably his toughest game of the year scoring 11 points on 4-18 shooting. A lot of it you can put on it being just one of those nights where nothing falls. You also have to credit tough individual and team defense. The moment wasn't too big for Turner and I like that in my guards.

4) Arbor View needs to finish the year off strong

I've always been a firm believer in the fact that you can learn more from a lost than you can from a win. When you lose you learn that you aren't invinsible. Arbor View has been the top team in this conference for a few seasons 41 wins in the last two years, including a conference championship last year. Last year was the first time in the school’s history they made it to state and won a state game. So far this year they hold a record of 13-9 and a 7-2 league record. Monday's lost to Shadow Ridge was shocking because Shadow Ridge is 2-7 in their division and Arbor View was at home so it was a huge upset to that magnitude. Arbor View still has so much talent. Not to get lost in any of the confusion Mikey Medlock had a huge scoring game with 26. David Moore had a typical double double 13 and 10. Larry Holmes had 26 points and 6 rebounds. It's hard to ever rule out Arbor View because all the talent they have. They can't afford to dwell on this loss for too long. They only have three regular season games left against Faith Lutheran, Cimarron and Centennial. Two of which are home games a strong finish is needed to get where they want to go.
