Each week, Prep Hoops Missouri will spotlight a group of such players who are putting in the work without a lot of attention. Here is Part I of our series.
Mack Anderson 6’6″ SW Livingston: The 2020 power forward has been a dominant performer in NW Missouri throughout his career. I caught him several times during the summer, playing for the Dominators. He is a beast inside with his athleticism and strong low post game. He can also put it on the floor and finish with authority. I’ve seen him throw down several dunks in traffic. He has been averaging in the range of 25 points and 15 rebounds throughout his stellar career. He is also a star on the football field with SW Livingston’s 8-man football team.
Patrick Baalman 6’6″ St. Louis Blue Knights: An excellent 2020 forward who plays for one of the home school programs in the St. Louis area. He is a very productive player with good fundamentals in the low post and a nice scoring touch around the basket. He was recently named to the All-Tournament Team at the Normandy Christmas Tournament as he averaged 20 points a game. He has scored more than 2,000 points in his career.
Kardell Sims 6’6″ Smith-Cotton: The 2020 forward is an explosive athlete who loves to throw down dunks at every opportunity. He is long and active and plays with a high motor and he loves to bounce as he throws down dunks on alley-oops and entertaining tip dunks. He is very good when he can face the basket and attack the rim against bigger defenders, where he has an advantage with a quick first step.
Caleb Legrand 6’5″ Cape Notre Dame: The 6’5″ 2021 forward has stepped to to have a big junior year for one of the top teams in the boot heel. He has been a consistent force this year as scorer, rebounder and shot blocker. He has good length and plays with a lot of activity. He had a big game last week with 22 points and 10 rebounds in a victory over Class 3 powerhouse Charleston. The Bulldogs do a good job of establishing him as a inside threat early in game.
Isaac Hoberecht 6’1″ Carl Junction: A talented 2021 guard who has emerged as an offensive weapon this season. He got an invite to the NCAA Developmental Camp in Champaign, IL in June and held his own against national-level talent. He is a lights-out shooter from long distance and he can also compliment it with some nice moves off the dribble to get into the lane for a mid-range jumper or a floater.
(We will feature five more “Under the Radar” standouts next week)
