Here’s a look at how the Missouri teams fared and what prospects shine brightest under the lights on Friday:
Christ the King 71 Kickapoo 66
For the second straight day, the Chiefs went wire to wire with a national powerhouse. In fact, Kickapoo led by as many as seven in the fourth quarter but ran out of gas down the stretch. Anton Brookshire had another impressive performance and continues to boost his national profile. He finished with a well rounded 20 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds while earning high praise from the visitors from New York. Cameron Liggins came up big again for the Chiefs, using his quick-twitch athleticism to snag 9 rebounds and pitching in 16 points. He and Brookshire each connected on three triples in the contest. Elijah Bridgers stepped up as well with a 10 point, 5 rebound outing for Kickapoo. The Chiefs will face Greensboro Day in the 7th place game today.
Greenwood 61 Greensboro Day 57
In yesterday’s recap, we gave fair warning to everyone to not be surprised if Greenwood pulls off a victory this weekend. Last night they did just that against a Greensboro Day team that ranks in the national top 25 and has a lineup full of division one prospects. If you haven’t already, it is time to forget the classification. The Blue Jays are for real. Greenwood hung around most of the game but found themselves down double-digits well into the second half before a furious rally to secure the improbable victory.
Aminu Mohammed had a dominant second half and finished with 31 points, 13 rebounds, and 6 assists while further cementing his status as one of the top juniors in the country. It is rare to see a prospect with Aminu’s level of talent that is equaled by his work ethic and unselfish play. Equally impressive, though, was his supporting cast who is growing up before our eyes and making this team even more dangerous.
Tommy Pinegar was at it again, knocking down four big three-pointers and finishing with 15 points. He also came up clutch knocking down three crucial free throws down the stretch. A pair of freshmen came up huge for Greenwood. Kaden Stuckey and Nicolas Burri did not back down going up against highly-coveted upperclassmen. Stuckey scored 8 points including a pair of huge lay-ups late in the game. Burri pitched in 7 points and 6 big rebounds. Lastly, a special shout-out to point guard Grant Harper. Despite not scoring a single point, he was critical on the defensive end and as a play-making ball-handler. He finished with 7 assists in the contest. Greenwood will play in Saturday’s consolation final against Christ the King.
Oak Hill 56 Vashon 51
In a true clash of the titans, Oak Hill Academy defeated Vashon in a defensive battle. Despite never leading in the contest, Vashon hung tough and made run after run at Oak Hill. The Wolverines were dominant on the glass and feasted on second chance points to keep themselves close. Vashon made it a one-possession game with less than two minutes to play but could not quite finish off the rally.
Cam’Ron Fletcher had another monster game for Vashon with 28 points and 13 rebounds. He was a force at all three levels. He knocked down a number of three-pointers and jumpers, attacked the rim in transition, and cleaned up with easy buckets after offensive rebounds. Kobe Clark stuffed the stat sheet with 8 points and 6 rebounds. Phillip Russel and Nick Kern finished with 6 points each. Vashon will play in Saturday’s 3rd place game against Booker T.
