The star-studded event had some of the region’s top talent on display and there were memorable individual performances in all four games. Here’s a look at those that stood out above the rest last night:
6’5 Sr Tyler Mcghie & 6’5 Jr Brayden Bradshaw – Guyer
The Guyer Wildcats capped off a 2-0 week with a pair of impressive wins over highly ranked Missouri foes. On Friday, it was a two man show as sharpshooting wing Tyler Mcghie led the way with a 21 point performance that included an array of tough, contested jumpers. He proved to be an elite shot-maker that can find the bottom of the net regardless of how difficult of an angle his shots come from. Junior Brayden Bradshaw pitched in 18 of his own. He is tough to handle when he bullies his way to the basket and did a nice job of receiving and and finishing through contact after hard curling screens. To complicate matters more for the Cardinal Ritter defense, Bradshaw showed off some versatility as he stepped out and drilled a number of jumpers from beyond the arc.
6’3 Jr Mario Fleming & 6’0 Sr Glenn Valentine – Cardinal Ritter
The Lions battled back from a sizable deficit and nearly came away with a big win over Guyer, before ultimately falling 71-66. The two-headed back-court monster of Mario Fleming and Glenn Valentine proved formidable. They combined for 46 points and frustrated Guyer with their relentless attack offensively. Fleming was sensational for Cardinal Ritter, finishing with a game high 26 points. He did a tremendous job of roaming around the middle of the Guyer zone and nailing jumper after jumper. Valentine had 20 of his own on a variety of big three pointers and smooth transition finishes. Ritter has a deep team with several guys capable of going off on any given night, and Friday it was these two. The Lions will have a good season.
6’7 Sr Chris Moore & 6’2 Jr Jordan Mitchell – West Memphis (AR)
West Memphis continued their impressive start to the season with a 56-50 grind out win over Putnam City West (OK). Auburn signee, Chris Moore, was a load inside as per usual. He collected an 18 point, 13 rebound double-double and was an imposing force inside on both ends against an undersized Putnam City West team. Junior point guard Jordan Mitchell was impressive as well. The angular slasher stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. He was one of the faster guards in the shootout who used his shifty ball-handling skills and long wingspan to get in the lane at will and finish at the rim or with a smooth step-back jumper.
5’11 Jr Daylon Andrews & 6’4 Sr Rondel Walker – Putnam City West (OK)
Rodel Walker did not have his best performance Friday at the Ozark Mountain Shootout. In fact, he was held scoreless in the first half. Despite that, he was very much involved in the game by knifing his way into the paint and finding open teammates. That went a long way towards keeping things tight against an excellent West Memphis team. He got things going, though, in the second half and showed why he is such a highly touted prospect. He is electric in transition and off the bounce and has one of the best mid-range games I have seen. His teammate, Daylon Andrews shot the lights out. He led the team with 18 points that largely came from high arcing three-point bombs from all over the floor.
6’5 Jr Trey Alexander – Heritage Hall (OK)
Trey was not happy with the loss the day before, and he took over on Friday willing his team to a victory over the host school. He was tremendous from tip to final horn. He started things off with a three on the opening possession and from there he was unconscious, drilling jumpers from anywhere on the court inside 30 feet in route to a 34 point onslaught.
6’3 So Carter Harrell – Glendale
Carter Harrell is a very talented sophomore wing that needs to be on every watch list that there is. He has good size, is highly skilled for his age, and has the “it-factor”. He battled through foul trouble, but still had a team high 20 points and was key to a late rally that put a big time scare into Heritage Hall. He has a quick stop and pop pull-up and has a rifle from beyond the arc. He is going to be special.
