Game Recap: In the first half, it appeared to be all Bob Jones in a blowout. Fairfield made some half time adjustments and got within 4 points, but it was to no avail. Bob Jones advanced to the semi-finals.
Fairfield’s Key Players:
Nathan Malik (#0): Malik really handled the point guard position well for Fairfield. He stayed composed despite having the ferocious Chandler Porter in his grill the entire game. Malik used his eyes to look away defenders on the drive and on his passes. He may have been the shortest player on the court, but he was able to get even lower and attack aggressively. He finished with 4 assists, but sadly had 4 turnovers. As a point guard, you have to keep that assist to turnover ratio down and be more efficient.
Isaiah Davis (#3): Isaiah was all over the court and making his presence known. He was extremely active on the offensive boards collecting three of them. He had a smooth mid-range jumper, but needed to shoot better (3-9). He finished with 6 points and 5 rebounds.
Jadarrius Torrance (#5): Jadarrius has a next level jumper. for someone being 5’9″. He finished with 17 points on 3-6 from beyond the arc. His only downfall was he needs to be able to create his own shot rather than constantly relying on catch and shoot situations. Being able to create will only take his game to great heights.
Bob Jones’ Key Players:
Jalen Jackson (#14): It’s easy to highlight the stars of Bob Jones, but Jalen Jackson really showed out today. He shot a perfect 7-7 from the field to finish with 14 points. At only 6’2″, he was given the challenge of guarding 6’6″ Reginald Perry and he never backed down. He hedged well in defending the pick and roll and was able to get his hands in for deflections. He all but sealed the game with a monster two handed dunk with 90 seconds to go and sucked the life out of Fairfield’s final push.
Jaden Coleman (#2): Coming off a poor shooting game the day before, Jadan Coleman needed a game to bounce back. As mentioned yesterday, he needed something to get his game going. Today he did that by getting some blocks and a couple of steals. He was much more vocal on defense by directing traffic and helping out his teammates. What really makes him good is how he paces himself. All the good NBA players can play at their own pace. Paul George is one of the best. Despite how out of control the game gets, he plays his game and plays in his own rhythm. Coleman is extremely good at that. He finished shooting 6-13 from the field and 17 points.
Bob Jones will move on to the semifinals against Sparkman.
