Game Recap: It was an extremely high energy game. Bob Jones looked like they were going to run away with it, but Muscle Shoals stayed in it and kept fighting. Lots of chatter between players, but also several spectacular performances. In the end, it was the Patriots from Bob Jones that proved to be too much.
Bob Jones’ Key Players:
–Jadan Coleman (#2): Jadan carried himself with a swagger that made you know from the start that he would demand attention. The Tulane commit seemed to have the green light whenever he wanted from his coach. There was buzz that he had “limitless range”. He did not shoot the ball well the entire game going 6-19 from the field and only 1-8 from beyond the arc. He still finished with 17 points. He was able to stop on a dime and shoot a soft floater. What he is missing, though, is that one thing that gets you in a rhythm. Maybe that’s a few easy layups or that floater, but something that can break you out of the shooting funk.
–Chandler Porter (#1): Chandler was the emotional leader for Bob Jones. He was extremely vocal talking on defense and getting the team into the right offensive set. He was small, but still loved to attack with either hand. He saw the floor great and seemed to be able to pass anywhere on the floor at any time. He was the true definition of a floor general and finished with 7 points.
–Jalen Myers (#5): Jalen was the best player on the floor from the start. He reminded the crowd of Giannis with his extremely long frame. He handled and shot the ball well for someone of his size. He was extremely good in isolation and very hard to stop. He was a monster on the offensive and defensive boards and finished with 24 points and 15 rebounds.
Muscle Shoals’ Key Players:
–Jaylyn Curry (#2): Curry was nonexistent in the first half, but came out and hit 2 big third quarter threes. His energy helped Muscle Shoals claw back into the game getting as close as 4. He was diving on the floor after loose balls and trying to do whatever it took for his team. He only shot 2-12 and those 6 points, but his energy helped his team more than anything.
–Ty Smith (#5): Ty was quietly all over the place, all the time. He had a super quick first step going right. If you gave him that step, odds are that he would blow by you. He finished with 21 points and helped bring them within 4, but got caught talking and was T’d up and killed all momentum. It’s important to play with emotion, but be able to contain and channel that emotion.
–Mikey McIntosh (#3): Mikey was everything for Muscle Shoals. He looked to shoot early in the game. He had a soft touch and finished well around the rim. He clearly was a big time scorer. He ran the floor great which opened up plenty of easy buckets. He shot 10-17 from the floor including 3-4 from deep and finished with 24 points and 6 rebounds.
Bob Jones will play Fairfield on Friday in the Winner’s Bracket and Muscle Shoals will play Hazel Green in the Loser’s Bracket.
