Some are fast and some are methodical in the open floor, either way here are some fast-break players that have caught our attention in 4A.
6’4 PG Mason Falslev (Sky View High School)
The future University of Utah guard is something special to see in the open floor. His length and ability to read defenses allows him to get into a fast-break by getting deflections and steals. When the defense recovers he opens up and allows trailers to flow down the middle which allows his bigs to get easy dunks. Mason will also dunk over you, around you and through you.
6’4 PG Isaac Finlinson (Dixie High School)
Isaac has a wiry frame. His speed us often underrated by his opponents and he makes them pay. In the open floor he is similar to a Steve Nash type player with the ball. He is crafty with multiple finishes at the rim and mid-range. He makes his teammates better when hes pushing the ball. He will find players open on the wings and his bigs down-low. Isaac could turn into a quality guard at the next level.
5’10 PG Bryce Thomas (Hurricane High School)
Bryce is another unknown guard that is electric. He is difficult to pressure because he uses his body so well as well as his off-hand to protect. He typically makes the right play as he can shoot from the outside and attacks the basket with speed and strength. He is also one of those speedy guards that will pull-up and hit a 3 on the break. Bryce would be a steal for a NWAC school looking for a smart high IQ point guard.
6’0 PG Talon Valdes (Juan Diego Catholic)
The speedy point guard racks up many points on the break as he can switch gears and get past defenders with ease. He has multiple finishing moves at the rim including an improved runner and floater. When he commits to defense he is basically a lone fast-break. Talon could average 10 points alone sprinting towards the hoop. He is one of the fastest players with the ball in his hands we’ve seen.
6’1 G Mark Huber (Bear River High School)
Mark is different in the fast-break because he will hit a 3-pointer on you if you retreat too far back. He stretches the floor that also allows him to attack the rim when defenders have poor closeouts. He can shoot well under pressure. Mark is the top scorer in 4A. He knows how to get to his spots when he is running without the ball as well.
