Here are some seniors who have seen their stock rise since the season has begun and should see their current rankings rise in the next update of the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 list.
Tucker Pellicci (2020 Franklin) – Current Rank: #24
The 6-foot-11 senior is on a mission to be the top post in the class and he’s off to a good start averaging 14.5 points, 11 rebounds, and 3.8 blocked shots. The rebounding average is unofficially tops in 6A so far this season and Pellicci has especially been dominant cleaning the defensive glass. Yes with the height advantage he’s expected to grab boards but he’s lived up to that expectation. Offensively, there were some travel calls in one game we watched but he’s gotten a lot better finishing around the rim. D2/D3 programs continue to monitor his progress.
DeRay Seamster (2020 Central Catholic) – Current Rank: #31
We already had Seamster on the Under-Recruited List but given the way he’s been playing, he won’t be under the radar for long. The 6-foot-1 combo guard has been the team’s most consistent player through their first two games and in addition to scoring at all three levels, he’s made his impact defensively as well. Seamster has also stepped up in the leadership category. A number of D2 schools are starting to pay attention and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him start earning some offers soon.
Jayoni Moore (2020 Roosevelt) – Current Rank: #52
Moore has a chip on his shoulder and is determined to prove himself as a prospect – and it’s driven him to early success. He started off the year with a bang, notching 30 points in the season opener and since then other than a game against North Medford, he’s been pretty consistent leading the Roughriders in scoring. Moore can definitely hit the three but also create off the dribble, not just for himself but also for others. NAIA/NWAC schools need to be on the alert.
Pierce Roeder (2020 Sandy) – Current Rank: #59
The one player who has scored 20+ points in every game so far this year is Roeder. The strong 6-foot guard can definitely stroke it from long range but he’s been able to score at all three levels thus far for Sandy. He remains largely under the radar from a college recruiting perspective, but if he continues his tear through the next few games – including big road games at Aloha and Summit – on through the Mt. Hood Conference slade, there’s no doubt D3/NAIA/NWAC or even some D2 programs could get interested.
Caleb Turner (2020 Aloha) – Current Rank: #61
Aloha has started off 5-0 and Turner has a big reason behind the surprising start for the Warriors. The 6-foot-1 guard is the team’s top offensive threat and his ability to heat up at any given moment has made him essetially unstoppable when he gets going. In the Franklin Tournament, his eight straight points in the fourth quarter against Franklin broke open a close game and then his five threes against Mountainside helped lead Aloha to the tournament title. D3/NAIA/NWAC schools should be watching.
Sam Harris (2020 South Eugene) – Current Rank: #65
We saw a bit of Harris with Jordan Team Fly this summer and he really seemed to blend in more than anything. But we also saw him play with high school team in June and it’s clear with the Axe he’s more of an offensive player. That has really been the case so far this season as Harris has used his soft touch from beyond the arc as a real weapon and against Willamette, he sank eight threes. The point guard hasn’t forgotten about passing either as he’s averaging about five assists per game. He’s looking like a rock-solid D3/NAIA/NWAC prospect.
Alex Nicoli (2020 Western Christian) – Current Rank: #78
A lot of the attention at Western Christian is on Seattle Pacific signee Payton Richardson – and for good reason – Nicoli has been opening eyes with his play. The 6-foot-1 guard has been knocking down threes but also taking it strong to the basket. He plays with a high motor on the defensive end and small colleges are starting to notice. Nicoli has earned a scholarship offer from NAIA Missouri Baptist and plans on taking a visit to the school in January.
Bennett Giebels (2020 Mountainside) – Current Rank: #84
There were some questions about how Giebels would fit into an already deep Mountainside squad but consider those questions answered. The 6-foot-4 wing/forward has been able to play multiple positions and his ability to score inside and out combined with his physical stature makes him a matchup nightmare most nights. His 31-point performance against Benson showed that he has the capability to lead the Mavs in scoring on some nights and he should earn some interest from D3/NAIA/NWAC schools.
Sherman Hunter (2020 South Medford) – Current Rank: #91
Hunter has battled with injuries over the past year but recently got healthy enough to make his season debut against Beaverton – and oh what a debut it was. The 5-foot-9 senior exploded for 26 points off the bench, sinking eight threes in helping lead the Panthers to the upset win. Sure it’s only a one game sample but hitting that many from long range is not so easily accomplished and Hunter is certainly on the radar to watch more closely this season.
