The 16-team event includes many of the better squads in Southern California, notably Long Beach-based programs Poly and St. Anthony and the host Braves.
Some of the key college prospects on display over the six-day event include:
Peyton Watson (Poly): Virtual unknown (to those not paying attention) a year ago, to one of the elite juniors anywhere right now. He’s a big (6-foot-6) guard with bountiful skills as a scorer and playmaker.
Jaden Jones (St. Anthony): The 6-5 left hander was the Most Outstanding Player at the Ryse Williams/Pacific Shores Tournament following the Saints’ title-game victory over Bishop Montgomery. A “wing-type” for college programs in need of one from the Class of 2020 this spring.
Jorge Ochoa (La Mirada): The 6-7 sophomore transfer from Orange Lutheran has the opportunity to be the second most productive player in the Suburban League, behind this kid at Mayfair that you may have heard about once or twice.
Mike Price (Crespi): One of the top point guards in the Class of 2023, regionally and nationally.
Corey Brooks (Loyola): The left-handed, Class of 2020 forward has a fluid jump-shooting stroke and the ability to finish consistently from along the baseline and in the lane.
Jabari Stewart (Compton): The 6-8 senior forward is the No. 2 college prospect, after Peyton Watson, in the Moore League.
Jailen Butler and Khemanni Davis (Rancho Verde): Coach Brandon Baker’s Mustangs has a sophomore backcourt that could rival what Jaxon Turner (University of Arizona football) and Tory San Antonio (Cal State Fullerton) accomplished as seniors last season.
Josh Camper (pictured/St. John Bosco): The senior point guard is the Braves’ “on-court coach” and also Coach Matt Dunn’s most reliable deep jump shooter.
Lamaj Lewis (St. John Bosco): The 6-4 Lewis is one of the more underappreciated “wings” in the Southland’s Class of 2021 and will be key element in the Braves’ push for a Trinity League title and spot in the CIF Southern Section Open playoffs.
Dominic Woods (Serra): He’s one of the Southland Class of 2020 best jump shooters.
Alex Archer (Cerritos): The Class of 2021 member is on track to being one of the next outstanding college-bound guards from the Dons’ program, joining the likes of Ben Howland (Weber State), as well as Aaron Wright and Evan Leonard (currently), at UC Irvine.
