The Legends of Winter Roundball Classic tipped off today from the campus of SLU High School, and Prep Hoops was in attendance for a handful of games during the early session. The 10:30 contest was a matchup between area powerhouse CBC and Roosevelt. It was all Cadets in this one as they got out to a red hot start and cruised to a 79-18 victory. Here’s a look at our 5 stars from this opening round matchup.
5 Stars: 6’4 Sr Caleb Love (CBC)
Love was sensational in limited action in CBC’s big win. He showed off his elite range with some deep first half threes. He was aggressive defensively and came up with several steals and deflections that led to crafty finishes and a highlight reel flush. Roosevelt simply had no answer for him.
4 Stars: 6’4 So Larry Hughes Jr (CBC)
This young man is going to be special. He has a silky smooth jumper with a fluid and effortless release and can absolutely fill it up at all three levels. He shot the ball efficiently in this one and was a menace defensively in the CBC trap.
3 Stars: 5’10 So Robert Martin (CBC)
Robert has a solid game. He was a catalyst defensively with quick hands and did a nice job knifing through the defense and finishing around the rim. Knocked down a couple threes as well.
2 Stars: 6’3 So Mikhail Abdul-Hamid (CBC)
Mikhail put together a solid performance off the bench for CBC and has some projectable skills to keep an eye on. Had a nice offensive rebound and put back finish. Knocked down a corner three. Stepped into an impressive two hand baseline slam and used his length well as a pest defensively.
1 Star: 6’1 Sr Malik Legette & 6’2 Sr Justin Boyd (Roosevelt)
Malik played with great energy and pride despite the score and was a bright spot for Roosevelt. He had several steals and converted a few transition scores around traffic. Boyd was held in check for most of the game but the volume scorer got it going late with a pair of smooth pull-up three pointers.
