Steven Clay – 2022 – W – Menomonee Falls
Clay scored a team-high 25 points in a loss to Pewaukee. For the most part, the Pirates didn’t have an answer for anything Clay did and were content giving up a lot of pull-up jumpers. The 6-foot-5 sophomore is an extremely confident shooter with in-the-gym range. Given his length, Clay has little trouble rising and firing over defenders. He’s starting to do more as a slasher, understanding that defenders will have even more trouble affecting his shot when he gets a head of steam to the basket. With Falls’ small lineup, Clay is going to be asked to rebound at a higher level than he’s used to and did a great job on the boards Friday night.
Ashton Janowski – 2022 – PG – Pewaukee
He’s not a household name yet, but interested to see what Friday’s season opener does to open up eyes around the state. Janowski scored a game-high 33 points as Pewaukee rallied late to knock off Menomonee Falls. Janowski was terrific down the stretch, not only scoring the game-winning layup, but icing the game with clutch free throw shooting. A crafty lead guard who plays with excellent change of pace, Janowski is so efficient due to his ability to just stay patient and wait for defenders to commit mistakes. Janowski has blow-by ability on the ball and appears to be an improved mid-range shooter. You’re never going to see him force any shots, nor can defenders really speed him up or get him playing out of control.
Quinten Lottig – 2020 – G – East Troy
Lottig came out and hit three 3-pointers in the opening four minutes, sparking East Troy’s 16-2 run to start the ball game. The senior guard made Vincent pay time and time again for losing track of him, finishing with 16 points, including five 3-pointers. Lottig did a great job of working the two-man game or passing and cutting. When he entered the ball into the post, Lottig re-spotted up, getting defenders out of position and freeing him up for catch-and-shoot opportunities.
Colin Terpstra – 2022 – SF – East Troy
Terpstra chipped in with 14 points. Coming off the bench, Terpstra connected on three-straight triples to give the Trojans a 46-27 halftime lead. A smooth, 6-foot-3 wing that can flat out shoot the basketball, Terpstra is going to appear in the next 2022 rankings after some positive showings in fall league action as well. His quickness could improve and he does have a long shooting stroke, but Terpstra has plenty of length to cope and doesn’t mind defenders crowding his space. Terpstra can put it on the deck a little bit, but is much better as a catch-and-shoot threat. He needs to get more engaged defensively, but Terpstra has a promising future as a scorer.
Josh Terrian – 2022 – W – Pewaukee
Terrian hit some big shots that helped Pewaukee rally in the second half. Terrian (6-4) has really good size and a nice inside-outside game. He’s a guy that the Pirates will look at to create mismatch problems down on the block and try and get him free for open 3-pointers. Terrian would go onto finish with 14 points, most of which came in the final period.
Seth Trimble – 2022 – PG – Menomonee Falls
Trimble is trending up and looking more and more like a high major guard. When schools see him jump this spring, they’re going to be very intrigued. He’s only about 5-foot-10, but Trimble can dunk a basketball with ease. He didn’t have any slams on Friday, but had some jaw-dropping finishes where he was able to hang, adjust his shot, and finesse the ball home. Scoring 22 points, including 15 in the second half, Trimble has the ball on a string and can just toy with defenders. A three-level threat who’s also a pure point guard and gets other involved, Trimble is making it very hard to keep him out of the top five in Wisconsin’s 2022 class rankings.
A.J. Vukovich – 2020 – F – East Troy
Vukovich owned the glass in Friday’s win over Milwaukee Vincent. Facing an athletic Vincent squad, Vukovich did an excellent job of setting the tone in the paint and making sure he put a body on someone at all times. After a slow start offensively, Vukovich got it going as the game wore on. A 6-foot-6 forward with a blend of power and finesse, Vukovich has worked on his versatility and is a threat out on the perimeter as either a shooter or dribble penetrator. Vukovich finished with a game-high 21 points in the win.
Brionne Williams – 2021 – SG – Milwaukee Vincent
Williams was a bright spot for Vincent on both ends. The younger brother of Oklahoma guard Alondes Williams, a Riverside grad, Brionne has similar burst and athleticism. The 6-foot-1 guard can explode to the rim in transition. While he plays at a high tempo, Williams does an excellent job of controlling his body and playing through contact. Williams works hard away from the ball and attacks the offensive glass. His athleticism is well used defensively as well, acting as a weak-side shot blocker and sending shots back with authority. Williams put up a team-high 16 points in the loss.
