Our first Prospect Upshot of the season was from the game of the night at the RCS Sports Season Opener. This game gave you everything you would like to see.

This game got going really fast and quick as both teams came out firing. in the first quarter. It may look like a track meet with the score in the first quarter between the two teams, but there were numerous steals and blocks in the first quarter as well. It was the second quarter early jump of Jack Yates led by [player_tooltip player_id="884528" first="Antwon" last="Norman"] with 8 straight buckets as they were able to stretch out the lead by 20 points and had the crowd in a frenzy, but the Mavericks went on a 9 point run to close out the half at 51-40. In the second half, the Lions came right back out on fire in the first two minutes of the game, but then Morton Ranch defensive skills picked up and they forced multiple turnovers and capitalized and held the Lions scoreless for 4 straight minutes and the Mavericks closed the game to just a one-possession lead. The fourth quarter had everyone on the edge of their seats as the seesaw battle continued and no one was willing to lay down. What a great game to start the season off with as Jack Yates Lions edge out the Mavericks by two points.

Morton Ranch Mavericks 23 17 26 34 100
Jack Yates Lions 27 26 14 35 102

[player_tooltip player_id="884606" first="Westley" last="Sellers"] 6’0 G / Morton Ranch / 2020 PHTX150

Westley played really solid the entire game. He played as both point guard and off guard to handle some of the pressure. He has really solid floor awareness and makes very timely passes that are right on the money. He is a known on-ball menace. He gave his opponents fits at times and came away with a lot of steals and pass deflections. He is a solid D2 prospect for any school looking for a hard-nosed defender that can handle the responsibilities of running the point. He finished the game with almost a triple-double effort 21 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists, and 4 steals. He shot 9/15-FG, 0/2-3PT, and 3/5-FT.

LJ Cryer 6’1 PG / Morton Ranch / 2020 [Baylor] PHTX150

LJ is a Baylor commit and a top national prospect. He put on a solid scoring display and was all over the floor. He faced a box-1 and was double-teamed when he touched the ball and he still put up very solid numbers. He is a tough assignment regardless of how many people are guarding him. He is super fast and has added a lot of strength as well. Has a college-ready body and will be a great addition to the Baylor Bears next season. He went for 37 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals. He shot 14/22-FG, 2/5-3PT, and 7/8-FT.

[player_tooltip player_id="766991" first="Adrian" last="Caldwell"] 6’5 F / Morton Ranch / 2020 PHTX150

Adrain really shocked me with his outside jumper. He took a summer off from basketball. He is one of the states top high-jumpers on the track and field side of things and you can see why when he shows off his bounce in the game. The muscular frame wing forward can be utilized as a power forward when going small ball. He is very athletic and super strong built like a football player. He would be a great addition to a college at the next level. Finished with 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists. He shot 8/10-FG, 2/2-3PT, and 1/2-FT.

[player_tooltip player_id="681899" first="Eddie" last="Lampkin"] 6’10 C / Morton Ranch / 2020 [TCU] PHTX150

Eddie didn’t get a lot of touches that one would assume he would get with his size and stature on the high school level. He still is a force in the paint. One of the best passing bigs in his class nationally and is a glass cleaner. He has good hands and a nice touch around the rim. Finished the game with 13 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 steals. He shot 6/9-FG and 1/2-FT.

[player_tooltip player_id="767016" first="Darryl" last="Brown"] 6’0 G / Jack Yates / 2020

Fresh off the gridiron to the hardwood this prospect didn’t seem to miss a beat. He is a D1 football commit as a defensive back so you know he is a passing lane ball hawk on the court as well. He is a tough defender and is willing to commit the necessary fouls. He is bouncy as well and has a high motor. He finished with 26 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. He shot 8/12-FG, 2/5-3PT, and 8/10-FT.

[player_tooltip player_id="884528" first="Antwon" last="Norman"] 5’11 G / Jack Yates / 2020 PHTX150

Antwon couldn’t get this long ball to fall in the game but he continued to push the pace and get to the rim where he had some tough finishes inside. He is a high motor prospect that looks to go at whoever is guarding him. Antown is a modern scoring first point that gets after the 50/50 balls. He has quick hands a quick lateral movements to keep his opponent in check. Finished the game with 34 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. He shot 14/25-FG, 1/11-3PT, and 5/6-FT.

[player_tooltip player_id="884534" first="Elijah" last="Elliot"] 6’0 G / Jack Yates / 2020 PHTX150

Elliot is one of the new faces at Jack yates. He didn’t have a big coming-out party for the Lions, but he still had a big impact on the defensive end of the ball. Quick guard with a nice first step and combo dribble moves. He currently holds an offer from a Low-Major D1 school and will look to add more throughout the season. He went for 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals. He shot 5/19-FG, 1/5-3PT, 1/2-FT.

[player_tooltip player_id="766917" first="Rubin" last="Jones"] 6’4 PG / Jack Yates / 2020 [North Texas] PHTX150

Rubin was the best player on the court in this game as he did every single thing. He is not just a star of the team but he is also the glue guy of the team. He is a big point that can guard positions 1-3 on the floor. He scored the ball really well from mid-range and inside at the rim where he had a couple of dunks. He got up to pin two big-time blocks in the game and most didn’t know he had those types of bunnies because he doesn’t try to dunk everyone. He has a smoothness to his game that makes it look effortless at times. North Texas is getting a big-time prospect in Rubin. He almost walked away with a triple-double in the game and finished with 27 points, 10 rebounds, 9 steals, 4 assists, and 2 blocks. He shot 12/26-FG, 1/4-3PT, and 2/5-FT.
