Will Felton was unstoppable in the paint
2021 big man Will Felton was a stud in the Wildcats opening season victory, putting up 30 points and 13 rebounds in the victory on Tuesday night. At halftime, he already poured in 22 points and snagged nine rebounds. At one point in the first half, he scored 10 straight points in the paint for Milbrook. Things slowed down for him in the second half, but only because his other counterparts in the frontcourt stepped up down the stretch.
Size was an issue for Heritage
Millbrook’s size at the forward position ultimately became an issue for Heritage, especially on the boards. Jalen McCoy finished with 14 points, with 12 coming in the second half. Eric Van der heijden put up 10 points and Sam Hood put up six points in the second half, including a big dunk on the fastbreak. In the end, Millbrook’s size and depth became an issue for Heritage.
Jalen McCoy has X-Factor type ability
It’s hard to believe senior forward Jalen McCoy isn’t getting more attention from college coaches given his abilities in the frontcourt at 6-foot-5. He had a dominant performance in the paint on Tuesday night, rebounding and finishing above the rim on a number of occasions. He’s a long, athletic player that uses his length well to get to his spots in the paint. He’s a senior prospect that’s peaking at the right time.
Depth will carry Millbrook deep into the playoffs
Although it was Game 1 of the season for the Wildcats, they didn’t hesitate using all 10 of their healthy players in the contest. Of those 10, nine of them scored at least one field goal in the game. 2020 guard Bradley Williams put up seven points in the second half off the bench. Zach Miller knocked down two 3-pointers off the bench as well. This team is one with tons of talent and depth that should carry them deep into the postseason and make them a dangerous team in 2019-20.
Dynamic duo was strong on offense for Heritage
The Heritage Wildcats got 33 combined points from Red Dunton (18 points) and Lucas Taylor (15 points) but, they were no match for the size and rebounding that Millbrook brought for 32 minutes. 2021 guard Jalen Rochelle also finished with 14 points but he only put up five in the second half. After one game, it’ll be back to the drawing board to see how they can get better overall production.
