Here were some of the most impressive shooters from the event:
Nathan Gilbertson, 2020, SF Washington, S.D
Gilbertson was one of the better off-ball guys on the day, showing a great understanding of how to get open consistently and stay moving. The result was a number of easy 3-pointers and he knocked them down consistently throughout the day. He didn’t stand around a lot without the ball in his hands, rather he did a good job setting screens, flaring for kickouts and cutting hard on the weakside of action.
Jacksen Moni, 2021, West Fargo Sheyenne, N.D.
At 6-foot-7, Moni’s greatest skill is his shooting and he hunts 3-point opportunities. He has a quick and efficient release, showing he can get shots off with minimal time. He’s good at finding space and openings on the perimeter to present himself to drivers for kickout looks and when he got going Sunday, he was one of the best shooters in the event.
Hunter Thorpe, 2020, Ellendale, N.D.
Thorpe is one of the best shooters in Class B North Dakota and he showed he can excel against solid competition Sunday, knocking down 3-points consistently throughout play. He’s 6-foot-3ish with a quick release but his best quality as a shooter is his understanding of spacing and how to get and stay open.
Teron Sazue, 2020, Crow Creek, S.D.
Sazue looks like a heady player who can do a lot of good things on the court. His greatest skill Sunday was his shooting ability, which he used to his advantage quite a bit. He knocked down shots consistently, using screens or spacing well and when defenders closed on him too hard, he’d adjust and find teammates for easy shots.
Elliot Whitney, 2023, SF Lincoln, S.D.
Whitney is just a freshman, but he was supurb throughout the day. An explosive lead guard, Whitney was a nightmare to defend in ball-screen actions because if defenders went under the screens (which happened a lot without any defensive strategy), he’d happily step back and bomb 3-pointers from several feet beyond the arc. He’s got a quick, feathery 3-point stroke and it was a weapon for him Sunday.
