PREVIEW: Western Athletic Conference Underrated Prospects (WAC)

<p>Prep Hoops Kansas takes an inside look at several of the top rising prospects in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) this upcoming season.</p> <p><b>Western Athletic Conference (WAC)<br /> </b><span style="font-weight: 400;">Dodge City (12-10, 4-4), Garden City (17-5, 6-1), Great Bend (9-13, 4-4), Hays (9-12, 4-4), Liberal (10-11, 1-7)</span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><b>John Johnson, 6’3, F, 2020, Dodge City</b></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Also a football standout, Johnson is a strong forward who does a terrific job of running the floor and scoring in transition and likes to post up where he is able to take advantage of mismatches. He has a strong post game and shows the ability to carve out a path to the basket where he has a soft shooting touch.</span></p> <p><b>TJ Nunnery, 5’10, G, 2021, Hays</b></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Nunnery is another active guard who can see time as a ball handler and a scoring option. He has good handles and can create for himself and his teammates. He looks to run the floor and keeps his eyes open down the floor on fast break opportunities. Nunnery averaged 9.0 points per game last season, second on Hays. </span></p> <p><b></b><b>Dalyn Schwarz, 6’3, F, 2021, Hays</b></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A small forward option for Hays who can Handle pressure inside the paint and out. He has a strong presence and can handle the ball some and works well crashing the glass. He brings a lot of tools to the floor and can make an impact on both sides of the floor. </span></p> <p><b>Alex Schremmer, 5’11, G, 2020, Great Bend</b></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">One of the state’s most underrated all-around athletes, Schremmer is a lights out shooter from distance. He can lead a team at the point guard position, but is also an effective player off the ball, able to run off screens and play catch-and-shoot basketball. He has range well beyond the 3-point arc and plays with extreme confidence. Schremmer is a competitor who doesn’t back down from a challenge. </span></p> <p><b>Brody Sumner, G, 2020, Liberal</b></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">An underrated guard who has good handles and can connect from distance. He has good speed on both ends and moves well vertically and can apply pressure along the perimeter. He has good form and can stop and pop or catch and shoot. Sumner averaged 8.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game last season and finished second on the team with 35 3-pointers made.</span></p> <p><b>Azavier Williams, 6’0, G, 2020, Garden City</b></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Williams is an athletic player with good speed and nice athleticism. He’s quick with the ball in his hands and can get around solid defenders in full or half court situations. He can score, he passes well and is a strong and aggressive defender. He can get up the floor in a hurry and makes good decisions with the ball. </span></p>
