Preseason Player of the Year: 2020 [player_tooltip player_id="801907" first="Braden" last="Gibbons"], Madrid

Gibbons is not only the league’s leading returning scorer, he also is tied for the most assists among returnees in the state with 182 last season. The 5-9 lead guard paces an explosive Madrid offense that averaged 76.4 points a game last year.

2020 [player_tooltip player_id="801907" first="Braden" last="Gibbons"], Madrid (22.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 2.5 steals)

A dynamic two-way threat, Gibbons is the leading returnee in scoring and assists, and ranks fourth in steals.

2020 [player_tooltip player_id="801842" first="Curran" last="Ingram"], Des Moines Christian (15.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 2.7 steals)

The 6-3 guard led the Lions in scoring, steals and blocks last season, helping lead them to State. We expect DMC to be among the top teams in 2A again this season, and Ingram’s two-way ability is a big reason why.

2020 [player_tooltip player_id="801876" first="Anthony" last="Potthoff"], Van Meter (14.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.7 steals, 50.9 FG%)

A 6-3 guard, Potthoff led the Bulldogs in assists and made 3-pointers last season, while finishing second in scoring, rebounding and steals. An efficient guard with the ability to score from all three levels, he’ll be the focal point of a Van Meter team that is always among 2A’s best.

2020 [player_tooltip player_id="801881" first="Bryce" last="Achenbach"], Woodward-Granger (14.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 2.7 steals, 50.4 FG%)

A do-everything guard, Achenbach led the Hawks in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals last season.

2021 [player_tooltip player_id="796156" first="TJ" last="Harkins"], Earlham (11.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.1 steals, 70 3PM)

Harkins is a dynamic shooting threat. His 70 3-pointers made last season rank 13th among returnees in the state, and tops in the conference.
