Warriors hand Cavaliers their first loss of the season
The Warriors contained the Cavaliers high-powered offense and held them to a season-low 68 points in another impressive weekend on their part. They went 2-0 once again this week, winning over the Cavaliers and Nets to move their record to 5-3 in the standings.
2021 wing Stefon McLeod and guard B.J. Keith combined for 53 points in the 74-68 victory over the Cavaliers. Keith finished shooting 13-of-18 (72.2 percent) from the field and 3-of-4 from 3-point range with six rebounds, five assists and four steals while McLeod was 8-of-17 from the floor with seven rebounds.
The backcourt duo held Cavaliers’ guards Will Otto and Ben Hines to just 32 points combined although 2021 forward Will Felton still finished with 30 points on 14-of-20 shooting and 16 rebounds. It was certainly a game the Warriors will use to carry them the rest of the season.
The Nets hand the Spurs their second loss of the season
The Nets are still a factor in the standings at 4-4 with their close 67-65 over the Spurs. They have room move in the standings with a strong finish in the final week of the regular season coming up. The Spurs have quietly climbed their way up the rankings at 6-2 after another split-decision weekend in Week 4.
A strong performance from 2020 guard A.J. Thompson carried the Nets to their fourth victory over the Spurs. He put up 36 points, 17 rebounds and three steals in the win. The Nets managed to contain the scoring of Julien King and Broderick Ellis Jr. in their upset victory as well. They were held to a combined 22 points.
Brandon Huffstetler stays hot in Week 4
The Heat went 2-0 in Week 4 showing how teams are adjusting just in time for the playoffs. With sharpshooter Brandon Huffstetler in the rotation though, they’re in good shape. Huffstetler shot 14-of-22 (63.6 percent) from behind the arc to the tune of 35.0 points per game across two games in Week 4.
He remains a solid shooter as the final week of the season approaches, shooting 48-of-90 (53.3 percent) from 3-point range in fall league and remains second overall in 3-point field goal percentage in the league. He’s posted six games with 30 points or more through eight games and counting, showing his prowess for creating shots on the perimeter.
Playoffs around the corner
With one more game left in the schedule, the playoffs are right around the corner. The Pacers, Nets and Heat are vying for their final spots on one side while the Spurs, Rockets and Warriors could all use strong finishes to solidify their status in the standings on the other. It will be interesting to see how things finish up before the first round begins this weekend at the J.D. Lewis Center.
