Standout center Ryan Kalkbrenner of Trinity Catholic has given a verbal commitment to Creighton University. The 7’0″ Kalkbrenner made his announcement on his Twitter account on Sunday evening. He chose Doug McDermott’s program over Stanford and Purdue, his other two finalists.
Kalkbrenner, who is currently ranked No. 3 in the Prep Hoops Missouri Class of 2020 rankings, enjoyed a breakout summer while playing for the Mac Irvin Fire out of Chicago in the Nike EYBL. He was named the EYBL Player of the Year after leading the circuit in blocked shots with four swats a game. His play in the middle also helped Mac Irvin secure a berth in the EYBL Peach Jam in July. Kalkbrenner saw his recruiting interest really spike after the first EYBL Session when he picked up a dozen new offers after a dominant weekend on the defensive end.
A four-year starter at Trinity, Kalkbrenner helped lead the Titans to a 25-4 record and a berth in the Class 3 state quarterfinals. As a junior, he averaged 14.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.0 blocks a game while shooting 70 percent from the field and 68 percent from the free throw line.
