Play With Purpose is a program that has a two-fold objective, by helping raise money for orphans and at-risk children locally and worldwide. It develops selfless attitudes within young athletes that call them to sacrifice and think past the moment at hand and use their gifts and devotion to make a difference. So all the money that was made from the door and from team registration went to support children in need. for more info on PWP visit playwithpurposesports.org Here are my takeaways from the event.
RJ Keene 6’6 SF • 2021 • Concordia Lutheran HS PHTX75
Played very poised throughout the event. Had some nice finishes at the rim as well as knocking down some jumpers. He also was active on the glass.
Nash Golaszewski 6’5 SG • 2020 • Concordia Lutheran HS
Nash ran the point at times and was aggressive on his attack to the rim. He knocked down some tightly contested mid-range jumpers. Would’ve liked to see him play man defensively but his team runs a zone on defense.
Jemikan Chevis 6’3 F • • St. Pius X HS
Plays with high energy. Was all over the court literally. Got after 50/50 balls forced a lot of tie-ups. Was really solid in the short corner game as well as cleaning up on the glass.
LJ Cryer 6’1 PG • 2020 • Katy Morton Ranch HS [Baylor] PHTX150
Made the game look so easy. Looks like he’s added about 10lbs of muscle on his frame. Played a lot stronger then when I last seen him play in July. Scored the ball well at all levels on the floor. And was locked in defensively.
Geoffrey Day Jr 5’9 PG • 2020 • Cypress Park HS
Was a pesky on ball defender. Played solid in help-side situations. Came away with a handful of steals and forced multiple turnovers. He has high offensive IQ and is a pass first point. He dropped some nasty dimes at the event.
Ernest Ellis 6’2 SG • 2020 • Katy Morton Ranch HS
He doesn’t have the prettiest jumper but he knocks it down at a high rate. Has great elevation on his jumper with a high release point. He was a problem from deep. If he continues his hot shooting from the outside he will be a great weapon for the Mavericks down the stretch of the season.
