The state is divided into 7 classes: 1A I, 1 A II, 2A, 3A, 4 A 5 A and MC (Mountain Christian) with most classes having subdivisions. Interest in the sport has never been higher and talent is spread throughout the state.
D1 Scholarships
Powerhouses like Borah High, led by head coach Jeremy Dennis, consistently develop players into D1 talents, like Rylan Bergersen, who now plays at BYU. But they are not alone. Small schools like Melba, with a population of only 500, produce D1 athletes as well, like Boise State scholar athlete Joey Nebeker.
Deep Talent Pool
As we head into the 2019-2020 season it is important to know that the state is loaded with talent and the season should be exciting. Borah forward Austin Bolt (photo) is returning from a state championship outing where he pulled down 15 boards. How will he match up with the 6’8” forward from Meridian, Brody Rowbury and how will Brody develop? Can Evan Walker lead the state in double doubles? Will Bridger Hansen repeat as the state’s three point champ?
Will Covy Kelly lead the state in scoring again? Can Jace Whiting hold off Ben Sickler for the rebounding title? Will new names thrust themselves into the frey? Will Borah repeat as state champs? Stay tuned as I, Jerry Mooney, cover these topics and more on the Idaho PrepHoops beat.
