Over 100 players made their way to Portland, Or to compete with some of the best talent the state has to offer. We decided to go ahead and create a list of the best individual performers from the weekend. Please note this is strictly based off of performance and not a ranking of the best prospects.
Co – MVP’s: 2020 6’5 SG Brian Goracke (Churchill H.S) 2020 6’5 SG Kaelan O’Neil (Churchill H.S)
As storylines go this made for an easy pick. These two weren’t selected for dramatic effect however. The Churchill teammates were the best players on the floor from opening tip. What impressed me most about both of them, is how hard they played. Remember Goracke is one of the top players in the state, and O’Neil has already committed to a D1 school. There was no real reason for them to attend, and their certainly was no reason for them to play with the effort and competitive spirit that they did. Both are big time players with bright futures.
1st Team:
2020 6’1 PG Matthew Levis (Jesuit H.S) – Levis made plays all day long on both ends of the floor. Usually a combo guard he played at the point and did so as if that’s where he always plays. Knocked down shots, found open teammates, and was a true floor leader.
2022 6’9 SF Mason VanBeenen (West Linn H.S) – Mason was one of the outstanding underclassmen. Versatile big man displayed a terrific skill set. He can handle, is comfortable shooting from 15 and is an underrated athlete. His size, and skill stood out all day.
2021 6’0 SG Isaiah Gilliam (South Albany H.S) – I’ll take IG all game. At the end of the day, there are only two types of basketball players, people who can and people who can’t hoop. Gilliam hoops. Quick shifty combo with an advanced offensive package. Loved his conditioning and ability to play through contact. This expo may be the springboard to a monster season from Gilliam.
2nd Team:
2020 6’4 SF Keegan Shivers (Wilsonville H.S) – Shivers simply made plays. Used his length to create at the basket but also faced up and knocked down long jumpers. Had a great feel for the game and didn’t force anything. A winner.
2021 5’11 PG Cobee Craword (Benson H.S) – Crawford got buckets all day long, whether it was on strong drives to the hoop or knocking down pull-up jumpers. Very few played as hard as he did on both ends of the floor.
2020 6’1 PG Jesse White (Barlow H.S) – White staked his claim as one of the top players in the state. The quick trigger PG was lethal all day. Showed off his range and playmaking skills.
2020 6’4 SF Erik Fraser (Grant H.S) – Fraser showed why he’s such an intriguing prospect. The wing showed a nice touch and a solid handle. Big time high academic guy whose recruitment is gaining momentum.
2020 6’7 F Joe Juhala (West H.S) – Loved how Juhala played. It wasn’t always pretty, however he played with a high motor and left an imprint in every game. Used his athleticism and strength to overpower opponents. He was at his best when playing downhill in transition where he forced several players to make business decisions.
2022 5’11 G Malik Ross (Tualatin HS) – Ross might have been the biggest eye-opener at the event. Virtually unstoppable getting to the basket and finished over bigger players. Big question will be whether hoops or football will be his ticket to college.
Honorable Mentions: Brandon Hopson, Noah Ogoli, Tucker Pellicci, Jacob Tompkins, Blake Lambert, Isaac Allwine, Christian Rowell
