Building A New Culture
The Titans may not have any seniors on this year’s squad but they’ll return a young squad that endured some growing pains led by Brandon Huffstetler, Nigel Okwakol, Julius Peacock, Josiah Pinder, Carson Croom and Josh Johnson.
Huffstetler is a 2022 guard that’s coming back from an ACL injury and also a transfer from Garner Magnet High School.. He’s a shooter with unlimited range from the 3-point arc. He moves well without the ball and finds the open spots on the floor.
Okwakol returns after playing as a freshman on varsity squad. He’s an athletic 6-foot-4 guard with length that can get to the rim.
Peacock is currently on the football squad working on becoming a more physical prospect. He’s 6-foot-7 and emerging as a post threat.
Pinder is a big guard that uses his strength well to create off the dribble and get to the rim. He’s emerging as a vocal leader and a key piece in their backcourt.
Croom is a 2022 prospect that joins the squad after spending time at Friendship Christian in 2018-19. He’s a 6-foot-5 that’s learning how to distribute and get to the rim.
Johnson is another player spending time on the football field. He’ll be their lead guard with his ability to run the offense and knock down 3-pointers.
New Additions
Some new additions to the group are 2022 guard Maliq Wenesman and 2021 guard Kai Smith. Wenesman transferred in from Minnesota while Smith transferred from Garner Magnet High School.
Despite their youth, the Titans are looking to improve their team chemistry on the floor. They used open gym to learn how to play together and improve on the little things like moving without the ball on offense and simulating different actions on offense.
They’ll be a work in progress in 2019-20 but the culture is on the rise as they learn to play together and get each other in position to win more games.
