In a showcase event, the natural tendency for most players is to hunt for shots and show off their ability to score. These players were able to make a positive impact in the games without doing a lot of shooting.
Ethan Worley 6’2″ Hillsboro (’20): One of the most unselfish, if not the most unselfish player at the event. He knocked down his share of open shots, but he was a willing and terrific passer. He took more pleasure out of feeding teammates for buckets than getting buckets himself. He was also a good team defender who was always in the right spot and communicating with his guys. He displayed good leadership ability.
Willie Davis III 6’0″ Cardinal Ritter (’21): The young wing was a tireless worker on both ends whose motor never stopped. He plays much bigger than his actual size because of his athleticism and high energy style of play. He grabbed more rebounds that he had a right to and he was a constant in the passing lanes on defense.
Kaidyn Johnson 6’2″ Jefferson City (’20): A long and rangy wing player who excelled on the defensive end throughout the day. He used his length to be disruptive as he had many deflections and also had several steals in the passing lanes. He also blocked a few shots with his long arms. He was also a very willing passer.
Luke Busateri 6’3″ Timberland (’22): The young wing was tough and fearless throughout the day. He took on the challenge of guarding many of the top players in the event. He was actually taking charges and he made the extra effort to dive after loose balls.
Christian Snyder 6’6″ Jamestown (’20): The small school post player did a good job of rebounding at a high rate during the event. He was attacking the boards at both ends of the floor and was rebounding out of his area. I also liked his willingness to go and box out on virtually every attempted shot.
Luke Cox 6’3″ Triad, IL (’21): A long athletic wing player who was very skilled with the ball, but he was also an excellent passer who dropped several nice dimes during the day. He gave up his own scoring opportunities to give the ball up on several occasions. He also has good length and anticipation which was also evident on the defensive end.
Marcus Pepper 5’9″ Granite City, IL (’21): A super quick point guard who pushed the pace on offense at every available opportunity, but he was also quite the pest on the defensive end as he had no problem picking up opposing ball handlers from baseline to baseline.
