KANSAS CITY — Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several players who stood out at Sunday’s Top 250 Expo held at the Hy-Vee Arena in Kansas City.
47 — Tanner Hecht, 6’3, G/F, 2021, Wamego
A thin small forward who can keep his chin up and go after plays. Hecht was easily one of the smartest players on the floor at any given time. He saw time with the ball in his hands on the perimeter and was also good down low. He took advantage of mismatches and found buckets and assists left and right because of it.
18 — Mike Carson, 6’4, F, 2021, JC Harmon
Carson is a strong, athletic player with a feel for post play and making himself available along the baseline. He plays hard and can handle the ball for himself inside and along the perimeter. He can knock down jumpers in the mid-range area and beyond. He plays good defense and keeps his hands up in search of a play. A tough, physical player who stands out when he’s locked in.
17 — Wyatt Carmichael, 6’4, F, 2020, Haven
Carmichael had a strong performance throughout Sunday’s events, showcasing a tough, rugged inside-out game. He brings. a strong, physical presence to the floor and plays within himself as he rarely tries to do too much. He is a strong rebounder, has a soft shooting touch in the lane and can step out and make outside shots as well.
7 — Kaleb Becker, 6’4, G/F, 2022, Abilene
A nice two-way player who fights for position and plays strong defense. Becker is a strong player who can find his shot around the basket or move out and sink shots around the free throw line. He plays through contact and can get the ball to drop as he always seems to get a lucky bounce. Becker goes after the ball and looks to dominate the boards.
74 — Andrew Piper, 6’4, 2020, Lawrence Free State
Piper showed off a jump shot for the first time this summer and we aren’t sure why he doesn’t; look to shoot more often. He has a strong frame and looks to make contact and back down opponents. He runs well and is a good defensive presence. He can block shots and rebounds on both ends.
