Once again we want to thank Hidden Gems for bringing a great event for many talented prospects to perform at. This event was an overall fun event to scout and breakdown.
In this final wrap up post, I take a look at some player evaluations. Including some new faces!
Evaluation:
Cyan Ervin (6’3” / W 2023 / Wellston): A freshman to watch for is the 6-foot-3 Ervin. He gets up and down the court quickly, always hustling. Moves well laterally on defense, staying with his man. Sets good screens in the half court, as well. Ervin attacks the boards and often wins that rebound battle. Doesn’t mind offering help side defense, or blocking a shot. Impressive game for Ervin that I watched.
Joshua Lim (6’3” / WG 2022 / Marysville): Another new face we were able to watch is Joshua Lim. The Marysville soohomore played pretty well in our viewing. An active ball handler that didn’t turn it over much. Also, pushed the ball up court to try to get number advantages in the transition. Lim finished baseline at the rim, getting the ball past the bigs. The sophomore is a Union County player we want to watch more. Most likely fit for the two.
Dayvion Harris ( 6’1” / 2023 / Harvest Prep): Harris was a high energy player for his squad, that played pretty well when I watched them. Dayvion was a hard worker inside, that kept working at a competitive level. The freshman gathered putback opportunity and did what he was supposed to with it, score. Harris was able to get up pretty well, to contest and deter shots. Harvest Prep is always a talented program, we want to keep an eye on the freshman.
Sohn McGee ( 6’3 / W 2022 / Westland): In my first viewing of McGee I came away impressed. The sophomore can play physical, and uses it to his advantage on defense. Active in the halfcourt, where he doesn’t allow much to say the least. A player with some bounce to his game, allows him to rebound with forwards, as well as be a force at the rim. Must note that Sohn doesn’t avoid contact, in a time where that is fading more and more. McGee is one of a couple of talented prospects at Westland to watch for.
Ross Thompson (6’7” / C 2021 / Cardinal Stritch): Thompson proved himself with the ability to finish through the lane Saturday. When he has his mind set on scoring, and he commits to it – he gets it done. Ross brings decent vision to the court as a big, with the ability to pass. Doesn’t get around the best in the halfcourt, but gets up and down the court pretty well. The big player inside at all times, and was a solid rebounder, towering over others. Taking the ball close to the elbow and finding cutters on the baseline was a good skill for the Toledo native.
