The bulk of the this class will have major opportunities at the D2 and D3 levels, but there are hidden gems that D1 programs will find. Today we will talk about point guards that are flying under the radar. These athletes are talented and can impact programs at the next level.
Cory Boston (Lafayette)- Boston is a 5’11 point guard that is gifted with athleticism and speed. This kid is a really good defender and excels in the open court. He needs to improve off ball screens and show more consistency with his shot. VMI and FAMU have shown interest in Boston.
Thaddeus Williams (Bessemer City)- Thad is one of the best scorers in the surrounding Birmingham area. Last season he averaged close to 24 per game. This kid may look undersized and skinny at 5’11, but he attacks the rim fearlessly. Thad plays with a chip on his shoulder, and this season should be a fun one to watch.
Wren Cole (Danville)- Wren is one of the best shooters in the state. He really understands how to play and when to take his shots. Wren is a high IQ point that just makes plays. This kid may not be the best athlete or super explosive, but he is very efficient with the ball in his hands. I think a D2 program would get a steal out of this kid.
Caden Pierce (Helena)- Caden Pierce became one of our favorites to watch last season. This kid is tough as nails and a floor general. He does whatever his team needs in order to get the win. The 5’11 point can score at all 3 levels, make plays off the bounce, and he is not afraid to bang for boards.
PJ King (Hoover)- PJ is arguably one of the best playmakers in the Birmingham area. He might be smaller at 5’10, but he is a dog. This kid defends full court and loves doing it. PJ does an excellent job at staying under control and getting his teammates the ball in the right spots.
