WHY MENOMONEE FALLS?
They have two of the best sophomores in the state.
This was a group that had to rely on quite a bit of youth last season. After taking their lumps in what was arguably the state’s best conference, Trimble and Clay have grown up quite a bit.
The duo both averaged in double figures last season as freshman and are likely Division 1 recruits. Clay, a 6-foot-4 wing, has a number of intriguing scoring qualities and could develop into one of the tougher players to guard in the state. A high-IQ floor general who can score and facilitate, Trimble is the straw that stirs the drink.
SURPRISE PLAYER
Davis is going to be another go-to player for Falls as the senior has made some noticeable strides in his game since last season.
Averaging just under five points per game as a junior, Davis showed he could be a feature scorer while playing on the Prep Hoops Circuit. A shifty guard who can create jumpers and glide to the basket, Davis has a high-octane, uptempo game that should complement the two stud sophomores nicely.
BIGGEST QUESTION
Where does the size come from?
For Falls, the tallest player in their projected true forward stands about 6-foot-1. While Clay is a legit 6-foot-4, he’s raw physically and better served to play on the perimeter.
If Falls wants/needs to play bigger, they’re going to have to find bodies that didn’t play vital roles for them last season. A lot could fall on junior Colton Smith (6-5), who did play in 23 games during the 2018-19 campaign.
OUTLOOK
The Greater Metro Conference is no cakewalk.
Sussex Hamilton and Brookfield Central are both state title contenders once again. Also at the top, Brookfield East figures to feature a squad that can beat anybody on any given night. Even the middle of the pack — Tosa East, Tosa West, Germantown, Marquette– are all going to be dangerous.
That said, Falls is probably another year away from being a state tournament contender, but should be a team that’s better than their record indicates next season .
