FABC Showcase: Day Two Standouts

Day one of the FABC Showcase saw a great pool of talent from what seemed like every part of Florida. Some performances were expected, others came from out of nowhere. Take a look at some top names from the day two at IMG Academy in Bradenton.

Tripp Burdgess - Alonso 2021: Listen, this 6’8” center is a terror to defend, in the paint. You’re talking about a guy who’s a smooth 300 lbs, who snags offensive rebounds like no other, and can score right over the top of you with easy putbacks. He led the day amongst scorers with a 28-point performance vs. Barron Collier. Should expect to see more of that, this season.

Tyus Williams - Somerset Prep 2020: The 6’4” hooper can really give you something great at every position. He handles the rock confidently, can create his own shot, and can defend the post, if-needed. Williams plays the game with an element of control. On the drive, he’s coming right AT you, and will finish with ease. Notched 13 points in a win vs. Mount Dora.

Eric Dailey Jr. - IMG-White 2022: Eric is going to be something special, without question. While he can hit the open jumper and sink it from three, he also shares the ball really well & gives his teammates opportunities to create. Dailey flies above the rim, and can throw it down with authority. He led his team with 18 points in a win vs. Lake Howell.

Corey Sawyer Jr. - Master’s Academy 2020: CSJ was absolutely the best scorer out of all day-two teams. It seems like this guy has range from anywhere on the floor. While he can knock down the trey, Sawyer Jr. proved he can take opponents off-the-dribble and make plays at the rim. He’s the guy you want with the ball in late-game situations. He is going to be a focal point for Master’s this year, no doubt.

Colby Barron - Master’s Academy 2020: Speaking of guys who make an impact with their shooting ability, Barron made defenses pay for not getting a hand in his face, all day. Barron was a marksman from beyond-the-arc, and also got the midrange game, going. This guy is going to be a problem for other teams, come November.

Joe Stubbs - Santa Fe Catholic 2020: I really liked this Joe’s energy from start to finish. Stubbs can slide his way through the paint and finish with contact. He also does a great job at snagging rebounds on the offensive end. It just seems like he has a motor that does not quit. He notched 16 in an overtime win vs. Sarasota-Booker while at the showcase. Stubbs is definitely a name worth keeping on your list.

Javon Bell - Santa Fe Catholic 2020: Bell is deceivingly quick, and can get to his spots in a blur. His change of speed makes it hard for defenders to stay in front of him, and he definitely exposed a few. In the midrange, Bell’s efficient, and gets the bulk of his scoring through short jumpers or at the rim. Think about keeping Bell on your radar.

Javon Bennett - Trinity Prep 2022: The potential of this young guard is absolutely scary. Bennett’s automatic from three, had 20 of his 25 points by halftime vs. IMG-White which included four treys. He’s extremely quick with the ball in his hands. Can hit the floater, on occasion. On defense, Bennett’s active and scrappy. Loves to jump the entry-pass and get a finger on the rock. Definitely one of the budding young talents throughout the state.

Jalen Coley - Trinity Prep 2021: Coley’s fearlessness for going to the rim will serve him well going into this season. Coley had no issues attacking the cup all day, and it resulted in some tough and-ones for the junior wing. He’s a solid ball-handler and on defense, Coley knows how to force steals and turnovers. Coley can definitely be used as a major piece for Trinity Prep in a couple of months.

Elias Martin - Fleming Island 2020: The 6’5” forward was a consistent beast in the post for the Flying Eagles. He fought through contact to get tough lays and trips to the charity stripe. On defense, he proved himself as a shot-blocker and had snagged some tough rebounds. He finished with 15 points in a win vs. Master’s Academy, but that doesn’t tell the full story of his impact. It definitely went way deeper than that.

Sebastian Astor - Fleming Island 2020: Astor showed that he can be a reliable scorer from the tip-off to the last buzzer. The 6’0” guard put up 20 points and three treys vs. Master’s Academy and never took his foot off the gas. Seeing him play once before in a district game vs. Gainesville-Buchholz, I see that he’s done a great job at working on his senior leadership qualities. You want that out of one of your best scorers.
