One of my favorite things to do this month is make predictions for the upcoming HS season. With that being said, here are my 3A State Title Predictions:
Top Contenders:
Sabino
I think Sabino could make a run at the championship this year. I really like their versatile player Cesar Saenz. He poses a match up problem every time he touches the court. He has really good size and strength, while being quick and agile as a guard. He also has some really solid handles. If Sabino can game plan around his strengths, I think they’ll be just fine.
Paradise Honors
Paradise Honors may have lost a lot of players from last season but I think they still have enough fire power to get the job done. I think a lot of it depends on how well Coach Hettel can develop those players. They definitely have some young solid pieces to mix with their senior leadership. Jalen Scott and Jerry Illiya will lead the way for PH. Blessings Nwotite and Logan Pohl will likely have big supporting roles as well.
Valley Christian
Valley Christian has also lost a ton of players from last season but I think the player they are returning is more than capable of bringing them back to the championship and hopefully winning it for his team, Logan Phillips. Phillips has gotten insanely better this summer under Coach Fauske’s teachings. His game has elevated tremendously and he has shown that he is a true D1 talent.
Sleeper:
ALA-Queen Creek
I really wouldn’t be shocked if ALA-QC made some noise this postseason. I really like their combo of Devon Brook and Dyson Lighthall. Both are listed as 6’7, with Brook being more of a 2 or 3 who can shoot the ball and Lighthall is a true 5. Lighthall has really improved his game over the years and is now a mismatch down low. He has really solid footwork and an array of postmoves.
