Summer Roundup: Big men who raised their profile (2020)

Prep Hoops takes a look at several of the state’s top performers throughout the spring and summer.

35-Zach Davidson, 6’7, F, 2020, Augusta, NLHA Gaddis

Davidson has terrific physical tools with good size and length and runs the court exceptionally well. He has the ability to throw down slams around the basket and brings a diverse skill set to the court. He can face the basket a little out of the high post or on the perimeter and serve as a passing big man, capable of seeing over the defense, can knock down outside shots, or can score around the basket.

40 — Cory Davila, 6’5, F, 2020, Basehor-Linwood, MoKan 2020

A sharp defender who earns his time by contesting shots, scoring underneath the basket and securing rebounds on the defensive end. He finds his man and is good at boxing out then passing ahead to a teammate running the lane in search of an open layup.

9-Andrew Sonner, 6’5, 2020, Olathe East, Team KC Black 17u

Sooner was a key 1-2 punch for Team KC alongside rising forward Jarrett Hensley and the two players played well off each other. Sonner has a strong, physical frame and is capable of muscling up in the post defensively, getting on the boards and brings a versatile skill set to the floor at the offensive end. He is a true stretch 4 prospect who can shoot lights out from the arc and also likes to play out of the high post where he is a good passer. He can get in the low post and score and uses his size well.

43 — Omar Stanley, 6’8, PF, 2020, Blue Valley West, MoKan 2020

Stanley brings good size and length to the court and has the potential to be a force in the paint – at 6’8 he can overpower smaller teams around the basket and is a difference maker at the defensive end of the court. He is a terrific shot blocker and enters the upcoming season as one of the state’s biggest difference makers at that end of the court.

22-Reece Williams, F, 2020, Leavenworth, KC RUN GMC 17 RISE

Williams is a solid player who looks to rebound and contest shots. He plays physical inside and moves his feet and can stay in front of the ball. He runs the floor after a rebound and is good at staying inside and looking to score. He can clean up plays and is always looking to stay active in the paint.
