A strong, physical guard, Wichita East 2020 Norman Massey is gearing up for a breakout senior season after running with Kansas Grind Elite this summer.

At 6’4, Massey brings terrific size to the backcourt as a combo guard. He is a slasher who can create for his team, drive and kick. He plays above the rim, gets his teammates involved and uses his size and quickness to his advantage. Massey says he takes pride in being a two-way player and is an aggressive defensive player and rebounder.

He says playing with Kansas Grind and for coach Jay Thompson has helped prepare him for the upcoming high school season as he works on his all-around game.

“The area of my game I have worked on this off season is my jump shot,” Massey says. “Ii need to keep it consistent.”

Massey says the late Amos Alford has had the biggest impact on his basketball career to date.

“He passed away when I was a freshman,” Massey says. “He gave me motivation and pushed me and knew what I was capable of when others didn’t. At a point of time I felt like he was the only person that believed in me and he always told me to be a beast. Also my parents, my mom and dad spend money for me to travel and I play for them because without them I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

A fan of Russell Westbrook, Massey says he appreciates the intensity and passion the NBA star point guard brings to the floor. He also enjoys watching LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard and Zion Williamson.

“I try to take what they do and put in my game, they all really play hard and dominate,” he says.

Also a football standout, Massey says he holds offers from Independence CC and Southwestern Oklahoma State University football programs and is drawing some interest for basketball but does not yet hold any offers.
