Here are some of the top guards from the summer
Blake Berg, 17U ECI Prospects
Berg doesn’t have a lot of holes in his game but one of his weaknesses going into the summer was his shooting from the perimeter. Then he went out and shot the ball with great efficiency over the summer with ECI Prospect. The 6-foot-3 swingman has the athleticism, skill and smarts to impact the game on both ends but if he shoots the ball in the winter like he did this summer, look out.
Jaxton Wiest, 17U ND Attack Blue
Wiest was an engine for an ND Attack Blue team that was one of the best in the Dakotas. The 6-foot-2 Mandan guard showed all the tools in his tool bag, excelling as a defender and facilitator. He’s among the best guards in North Dakota at both those. He’s not a real aggressive scorer but he’s money from the mid-range and uses his body well to finish in traffic.
Carson Henningsgard, 17U ND Attack Green
Few guys have the skill and feel that Henningsgard possesses. The Hillsboro/Central Valley guard is crafty beyond his years and can fill it up in a variety of ways when he gets going offensively. He shot the ball extremely well from long-distance and showed throughout the summer that he can get to the rim against increased competition.
Caleb Duffield, 16U ND Attack Green
The Bowman County product has a chance to put up huge point totals the next two years against Class B competition and he showed over the summer that his shooting and scoring ability translates even against better players. The 5-foot-11 guard showed deep shooting range and the explosiveness to beat people off the dribble.
Jaiden Wright, 17U ECI Selects
Wright is one of the most physical guards in North Dakota and he used that to his advantage over the summer, beating opposing guards up on both ends of the floor. The Dickinson point guard uses his body well to get into defenders and finish around the rim and his size to his advantage on the defensive end to contest shots and corral ball-handlers.
Brooks Carroll, 16U ND Attack Blue
Carroll can make things look easy as he’s an effortless shooter and cutter off the ball. He’s a solid slasher who showed he can play through contact well and mix it up on the defensive end too. His best skill is shooting and even against solid competition, he showed he can not only get his shot, but do it efficiently.
Talon Hoffer, 17U Inspired Athletics
Hoffer showed throughout the summer why he’s one of the best wings in North Dakota. At 6-foot-2, Hoffer has the strength and athleticism to contend with strong competition, defending at a high level and showing he can drive good offense. He’s a strong slasher and finisher at the rim, can score in the mid-range and has the passing skills/creativity/vision to make plays for his teammates.
