Berg, a 6-foot-3 guard, spent the grassroots season with ECI Prospects where he had a chance to play against top-end competition practically every weekend. That competition was beneficial to his development as a player.
“This was the best summer, basketball-wise, that I’ve had,” said Berg. “It was really good. Coaches helped me out a lot. Played with a great group of guys. I thought I played well in some of the tournaments. Had some good tournaments and bad tournaments but I’m happy with how my game grew.”
A long, explosive athlete, Berg has worked hard on his jumper over the course of the last year. He shot the ball better this summer. He said that is a big key in unlocking his potential.
“At the end of the season last year my 3-point shooting wasn’t the greatest,” said Berg. “I feel like I got a lot better with it this summer. With the team we’ve got this year, bringing that to the high school season is going to be really important. I’m excited about this team. I think we’ve got some young guys that can play bigger roles for us. We’ve got a lot of talent.”
Berg’s emerged as a really solid prospect for the college level. There aren’t a lot of holes in his game and coaches have taken a lot of interest in getting him to their campus.
“I’ve gotten a lot of help from my coaches with the process,” Berg said. “I’ve got offers from Jamestown and University of Mary. I visited St. Johns earlier in the summer too. I’m not in a big hurry; mostly just about talking with my family and figuring out what is best for me.”
