Between that showcase and the live period team camp the weekend before, there were plenty of offers handed out to players at the Division I level. The two “@NCAAGeorgia” events were a success in every sense of the word, however players looking to sign on the Division I as well as the Division II, III, and NAIA levels made there way to Kell High School on Sunday to showcase their talents on a similar platform put on by the Southern Hoops Report. Several players enjoyed productive afternoons and earned offers from those lower level programs in the process. Here are a few of those rising senior standouts:
- 2020 G DJ Wright (Greene County High School)
- One of my favorite players in the 2020 class, Wright continues to impress by impacting the game in all facets from his point guard position. Standing 5’9” the Greene County senior doesn’t allow lengthy defenders to interrupt his initiating offense and is simply a magician in the pick and roll game. His shot from the mid-range and three-point level has gotten better as he hit eight from beyond arc in his last two contests at the Southern Hoops Report Summer Showcase. He can fill it up in a heartbeat but is one of the more selfless floor generals in the state. He holds one Division I offer from Bryant University and his run with the Smyrna Stars this July should bode well for him as he looks to real in more offers going into his senior year.
- 2020 F Adonnis Easton-Tolbert (Denmark High School)
- Easton-Tolbert, who has been one of the hotter prospects in the state this summer, enjoyed another solid outing this past weekend. In my opinion, he was the most productive big man at the showcase, displaying his versatility from 15 feet and in. The rising senior out of Alpharetta and Denmark high school stands around 6’6”-6’7” and has put on good weight this off-season to bang inside when necessary. He is a point guards dream in the pick and roll, knowing when to roll to the hoop and finish above the rim consistently or pop where he has an above average mid-range jumper. Easton-Tolbert also showed the ability to hit floaters when he was around the 8-10-foot area. The one-two punch of Easton-Tolbert and point guard Sutton Smith will make the Danes a tough out in Georgia’s 4A classification.
- 2020 G Amos Long (Alpharetta High School)
- Long was another one of those small but productive guards at the Southern Hoops Report Summer Showcase this past weekend. He looked great in transition, pushing the ball the length of the court for nice passes to wing shooters and rim running big men. The rising senior from Alpharetta has good speed and a tight handle with the basketball, using both attributes to run the show for his respective team at the showcase. Long knows how to slither his way into the lane in the half court and had some acrobatic finishes at the rim against bigger shot blockers. Long has a calmness about himself when handling pressure and would be one a coach would love to have as his leader out on the floor.
- 2020 F Spencer McDonald (Creekview High School)
- McDonald enjoyed a solid showcase all afternoon at Kell high school and made the most of his opportunities, picking up an offer from Reinhardt University by days end. The 6’6” forward out of Canton, Georgia can put the ball on the floor and finish in the paint, which is where he did most of his damage Sunday afternoon. He was very active around the glass, either scoring or awarding his team with extra shots on second and third chance point opportunities. McDonald is a good finisher around the rim, runs the floor well, and was a committed defender on that end consistently. He plays AAU with the H.Y.P.E Hawks 17U organization and his showing at the Southern Hoops Summer Showcase could be the jump start to his recruitment going into the July live period.
- 2020 G TJ Morgan (Houston County High School)
- You couldn’t find a quicker guard at the Southern Hoops Summer Showcase than Houston County guard TJ Morgan. The senior out of Warner Robins made life hard on defenders attempting to stay in front of him in the half or full court. Morgan is a lefty that always kept his head up and looking for teammates when he got into the lane and point-blank shots weren’t there for him. As a shooter you would love playing with Morgan because of his ability to suck the defense in and his unselfishness on the floor. The pass first guard also did a good job of knocking down shots in his own right when the defense sagged off him. Morgan’s run with the Warner Robins All-Stars and Houston County will make him an intriguing 2020 prospect out of Middle Georgia, which always seems to produce productive collegiate players every year.
