Recruiting Report: Ethan Wilson (2020)
Ethan Wilson led a talented Higher Level Premier team to a 2-1 record in the 17U Elite Division at DC JamFest, with their only loss coming to the eventual champs Crown Basketball. The skilled floor general discussed adjusting to his role this summer during the grassroots season, his overall game and recruitment during a recent interview with Prep Hoops.
PH: What was the transition like for you from high school to AAU this spring and summer?
EW: “When I’m playing at Osbourn Park, I’m more of the scorer. The ball is in my hands all the time so I have to take on that role of being a leader and a scorer as well as getting the younger people involved. But when I come here, it’s more of a point guard facilitator role. I don’t really have to do as much scoring because we have 13 guys that can score. So I’m not really focused on scoring here. I’m just focused on getting everybody involved, playing defense, and doing all the little things.”
PH: Describe an underrated part of your overall game.
EW: “My rebounding. I feel like I can rebound well for a guard. I feel like I can probably snag 8 to 10 rebounds a game.”
PH: Who do you model your game after?
EW: Collin Sexton, Chris Paul, Kyrie Irving. Those are my three favorite point guards to watch. I like Sexton the most. He’s a real motivator to me. We have the same motor. I really watch his film a lot.”
PH: What part of your game are you focused on improving?
EW: “I need to work on my defense. If i can make sure to limit straight line drives, stay in front of people at all times, I feel like I’ll have a more complete games. I’ve been working on that real heavy with Darius (Wilson). Defensive slide drills, 1-on-1 full court.”
PH: Who is recruiting you?
EW: “Georgian Court. They want me to go to their elite camp next month. I also have interest from UMES. I still have my offer from Wilmington. Also some D3’s like Roanoke and Hood College.”
PH: Which factors are you prioritizing when considering schools?
EW: “#1 is academics. So I can get a good education. I also want to go somewhere that I’ll be important and have a role coming in. I just want the coach to believe in me and truly respect my game.”
