LAWRENCE, Kan. — The 2019 Hardwood Classic wrapped up on Sunday at the Kansas Sports Pavilion with MoKan Elite 2021 defeating the Missouri Flight in the championships game.
Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several of the tournament’s talented guards from the Missouri side.
31 — Aaron Franklin, 6’4, G, 2021, Raytown, MoKan Elite 2021
Franklin is a talented guard with terrific size, athleticism and all-around skill. He an the MoKan Elite 2021 spent the weekend playing up in the 17U field and won the championship with a hard fought win over the Missouri Flight in the finale. Franklin has a nice inside-out type game with the ability to score in the lane and can knock down outside shots and handle the ball. He is a rising junior wing at Raytown.
12 — Brennan Jeffries, 2020, Mid-Mo Elite
Jeffries impressed throughout the weekend in Lawrence with his all-around game. He can handle the ball and run the point, but can also put the ball in the basket from all three levels. Jeffries can pull up from beyond the 3-point arc off the dribble, gets to the basket well and can make an array of floaters and runners in the lane.
10 – Jaden Monday, 5’11, G, 2020 Van Horn SSA Elite Black
Monday is a strong guard who can handle the ball, lead a team from the PG position or play off the ball a little. He can put the ball on the floor and attack the basket and is a tough defender.
1 — Dontae Taylor, 6’0, G, 2020, Parkview, Missouri Flight
Taylor is a four-year starter at Parkview who has been a leader for the Vikings, showing the ability to handle the point and the ability to lead a team. Taylor is a crafty ball handler who can get a team into its offense and is at his best attacking the basket and finishing in the lane. He can score the ball when necessary and has an emerging outside shot.
25 — Caleb Tennis. 6’2, G/F, 2020, Van Horn, SSA Elite Black
Also a football standout, Tennis is an underrated guard who does all the little things at a high level at both ends of the court. He can handle the ball well, runs the floor exceptionally well and can finish in the lane. He is a versatile defender using his size and athleticism to his advantage and can knock down open shots when open
