BBE won its opening game against Marcus Denmon Elite 58-54 in pool play on Friday night. That was their only victory of the weekend with the margin in single digits. The rest of their games were one-sided affairs, including a 59-53 victory over Marcus Denmon Elite in the championship game. BBE overwhelmed the competition over the weekend with his smothering defense and all-out attack on the offensive glass for an entire game. BBE also had a productive showing at the Peach Invitational in Augusta, GA, where they finished with a 4-1 record.
Here is a look at the players from Brad Beal Elite 16U:
Nicholas Kern 6’5″ Vashon ’21: A talented wing player who was excellent in different facets of the game. He has length to go along with his overall skill set and a high basketball IQ. He has three-level scoring ability which includes a nice low-post game against smaller defender where he can unleash his potent turnaround jumper. His good ball handling and passing skills enable him to be a very effective facilitator who makes teammates better.
Tommie Williams 6’3″ Belleville West ’21: A versatile wing player who plays with a tremendous motor on both ends of the court. He has the length, athletic ability and determination to guard multiple positions, including point guard. He is a slashing performer who excels at attacking the basket, plus he also is an excellent offensive rebounder. He played a key role in the Maroons winning the IL Class 4A state championship last season.
Luther Burden 6’0″ Cardinal Ritter ’22: One of the nation’s top football prospects in the Class of ’22 as a wide receiver, young Luther is also a talented basketball player with a high motor. He uses his physical strength and toughness to bully his way to the basket. He also has good speed and quickness to go along with his strength, making him an ideal power guard.
Nick Smith, Jr. 6’3″ Sylvan Hills, AR ’22: A long and slender young guard from Arkansas who has already picked up high-major offers from schools such as Arkansas and Oklahoma State. He is a smooth offensive player with three-level scoring scoring ability, which includes deep 3-point shooting range. On defense, his length and anticipation enable him to dart into the passing lanes for steals.
Jaden Rogers 6’0″ Fern Creek, KY ’21: An excellent all-around point guard from Louisville who has a good feel for the game and can really facilitate the offense. He did a nice job getting the ball to teammates where they can operate, but he also has the ability to go and get a bucket, whether it is on dribble penetration, an open 3-pointer or his solid float game.
Chevalier Brenson 6’3″ CBC ’21: An athletic wing player who plays a very aggressive game at both ends of the court. He is also an excellent wide receiver prospect on the football field and he brings that toughness to the basketball court. He enjoys the challenge of guarding top offensive players. He is an excellent slashing threat on offense who also excels in the transition game.
KJ Lee 6’5″ Fort Zumwalt North ’21: A long and slender wing who is one of the top 3-point shooters in the class. He has excellent range and did a good job of stretching the floor to give his slashing and driving teammates more room to operate. He has continued to improve his overall game in terms of passing and ball handling.
Josh Robinson 6’8″ Cardinal Ritter ’21: An improving young big who makes good use of his size in the paint to get good position and grab his share of offensive boards for putbacks. His mobility is solid and he has good fundamentals around the basket as he keeps the ball up when he has possession.
Jonathan Dunn 6’5″ Hazelwood Central ’21: An athletic young big who runs the court and plays with a lot of energy. His motor and bounce were on display throughout the weekend as he threw down more than his share of resounding dunks. He also did a nice job at blocking shots.
