The native of Angola stands at 6’5″, 207 lbs. He started playing basketball at the age of 8 and used to participate in soccer games and leagues in the area often.
However, he says he realized he had a big chance with the game of basketball during his freshman year, which is when he started to take it more seriously.
Current offers for Miguel are from Iowa State, Tennessee Tech, FIU, James Madison, Arkansas State, Kansas State and USF.
He says that Texas A&M, Kansas, Xavier and Middle Tennessee State have shown strong interest as well.
Coaches currently recruiting him tell Miguel that they like his size, ability to play the 1 through 3 on both ends of the floor, create his own shot and make plays for other, he says.
On a revamped West Oaks squad that can be seen as one of the favorites in the SIAA, Miguel is essential. 2020 pair AJ Staton-McCray and Malachi Hazelton transferred over from Blanche Ely, 2020 guard Naseem Khaalid came down from Jacksonville First Coast. 2021 guards AJ Neal, Jameon Harris and 2022 forward Fray Dieud Nguimbi return as key pieces for the Flame.
“West Oaks has always been home for me since my freshman year. I trust them the same way they trust me that’s why it’s been good every year,” Miguel told Prep Hoops.
He says he’s seen the most growth with his left hand and shot.
“I’m a better shooter than I was before. I feel like we are going to have one of the best teams in the country just because of the size and the length of the team,” Miguel said. ‘We got a lot of talent and working hard guys on the team.”
The last two years, he has spent his time on the UAA Circuit with Team Breakdown.
“This organization has so many stories and success. They make you go hard on everything you do. I have the best coaches in the country,” Miguel said. “Just that way they push me, that’s how they used to do it with the past players and that’s why they all succeed. I’m just trying to follow the same steps to make it one day as the others did.”
In terms of his biggest strengths, he alluded to his ability to be a playmaker, score the ball and play lockdown defense. He says he wants to improve his mid-range game and his left hand further.
A dominant scorer, Miguel doesn’t shy away from anyone whether he’s playing pickup against NBA G League players, international players, college standouts or fellow high school prospects. I’ve seen him go off as an attacker at the open runs at The Basketball Warehouse and whenever he’s with West Oaks or Team Breakdown, you always know what you are getting, a very intelligent and high motor player. Miguel is a very underrated passer and that is something colleges will love in his game when they watch him play.
