Amirion Joyce, Bourbon County (94 to 18) – Joyce has had a monster spring and summer thus far with the chance to earn his first scholarship offers this month with AAU. Amirion’s move to Bourbon County has already paid dividends for him and he has Bourbon County looking like a 10th region contender.
Dre Boyd, Warren Central (42 to 16) – Dre is another player who has had a big spring and summer with AAU and June “Summer Ball”. Boyd is athletic and has zero back down in him. An intense competitor, Boyd recently got an offer from Georgetown College and continues to show his potential as a combo guard in college.
Jabari Kyle, Middlesboro (Unranked to 33) – Better late than never, Jabari should have been included in our rankings update back in March but was missed. He’s got good size at 6’2 but needs to be more of a floor general and force his offense less sometimes. Middlesboro has a solid returning core and can threaten for the 13th region title while Kyle can make a push at 13th region Player of the Year.
Jake Evans, Male (Unranked to 39) – Another player who was overdue to be included in our rankings, Jake continues to impress as a floor general type of point guard who can make open shots and guard his position. His college interest is all over the place but Evans should find a home at the D2/NAIA level or even at a high academic D1 school.
Wyatt Supplee, Carroll County (85 to 44) – Wyatt isn’t the biggest kid but he can really score the ball and is a really good athlete. He has to carry much of the scoring burden for Carroll County but is able to be more of a facilitator on his AAU team and shows the type of point guard he can be at the next level.
Joe Benton, Estill County (100 to 49) – Joe’s college path is likely on the golf course instead of the basketball court but Benton could easily play at the next level and be a major contributor at the D2/NAIA level. If Estill County can make a push to get back to Rupp Arena, it will be on the back of Joe Benton.
JaRel Montgomery, Bardstown (Unranked to 53) – JaRel is proving that Bardstown is more than just the JJ Traynor show. There were multiple games last season when Montgomery made a much bigger impact than JJ over the course of the game and as both continue to improve, they could be the best 1-2 punch in the 5th region.
Brett Norvell, South Laurel (Unranked to 61) – The graduation of JJ Ramey has given Brett a big opportunity with more playing time and a lot more shots. Norvell has taken advantage this summer and has shown himself to be a kid capable of making an impact in college. Brett can shoot it at a high rate and put the ball on the floor. He also has great positional size as a 6’5 wing.
