HOUSTON — Session I of the first annual SOUTH College Basketball Academy recently was held at the University of Houston. This invite-only camp featured some of the best prospects from states within the region. Brandon Jenkins was in on all of the action and highlights the top Texas wings and swingmen who stood out during the live period event:

(Alphabetical Order)

[player_tooltip player_id="766946" first="Jarren" last="Cook"] 6’3" 2020 Newman Smith (Carrollton, TX): Cook has had one of the best Julys out of any Texas prospect. The mature-framed sniper has been on fire throughout the whole month. His best performance at the camp was a match where he connected on eight attempts from downtown.

Josh DeLeon 6’2" 2020 San Marcos (San Marcos, TX): DeLeon was a revelation for me during Session I. I loved how he played to his strengths by taking and making good looks from behind the arc. He also ran the correct lanes in transition, made the right passes, and deflected passes on the other end.

[player_tooltip player_id="766973" first="Nate" last="Dominick"] 6’5" 2020 John Paul II (Plano, TX): A true team-first guy who took what the defense gave him. He was efficient from the field and always made the right decision with the ball in his hands.

[player_tooltip player_id="959219" first="Daylan" last="Hamilton"] 6’3" 2020 Klein Forest (Klein, TX): Hamilton had a nose for the ball and was a complete beast on the defensive glass. He made some nice scores from the outside off the dribble and finished comfortably around the basket through traffic.

[player_tooltip player_id="766916" first="Jake" last="Milkereit"] 6’5" 2020 Bishop Lynch (Dallas, TX): Already known as a great shooter off the catch, Milkereit was frequently on ball and made the right finds within the half-court setting. Defensively, he did a solid job of sliding his feet to keep his man in front of him.

Drake Muller 6’4" 2020 Greenhill (Addison, TX): Muller played within himself and never forced the action. He was solid scoring in the mid-range and was always in the right place at the right time for easy scores. He is terrific in moving without the basketball and looks to have added muscle to his frame.

[player_tooltip player_id="889562" first="Colin" last="Smith"] 6’7" 2022 St. Mark’s (DeSoto, TX): Smith has a chance of becoming a top-100 prospect in the country. He has terrific positional size and he used it to gain position inside, post up, and score. He moves at his own pace but never hesitates to rip through and attack baseline to flush one home. A comfortable catch-and-shoot three-point weapon.

[player_tooltip player_id="779883" first="Ramon" last="Walker"] 6’4" 2021 Shadow Creek (Alvin, TX): The son of a former NFL Athlete, Walker arguably helped himself the most out of any rising junior Texas prospect who attended. He regularly took advantage of one-on-one mismatches and look to score at will. Walker possesses a cut-up frame and was tenacious on the glass. His efforts earned himself his second offer from Sam Houston State.
