As summer ball is now in full swing, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at some of the state’s top players on the rise in a variety of positions.
Below are some of the state’s players to keep your eyes on in the 2020 class
Travis Beetch, 6’3, G, 2020, Abilene (pictured)
Beetch is a nice guard with good size and solid speed who can light up a scoreboard. He uses his athleticism to his advantage. He can move inside quickly and gets his shot off with his high release. He plays physical on defense and can handle the ball at the top of the key or play a role at the wing. He sells contact well and jump passing lanes and can come away with open looks in transition.
Jake Ferguson, 6’0, G, 2020, Clay Center
A solid guard with good handles and a defensive-minded game. He is always looking for a steal and shows up in transition play. Also a guard who can score for himself. He can get to the basket and is a good catch-and-shoot player. He’ll pass up an open look if he can get the ball to a teammate for a better look.
Brooks Whaley, 5’7, G, 2020, Rock Creek
A savvy guard with great handles who knows how to get where he needs to go. He can shake off defenders and get to the basket and finish with either hand. He’s a solid defender and strong for his size. He brings physicality to his game and can finish off balance after the contact and get to the free throw line.
Taybor Vetter, 5’9, G, 2020, Wamego
A skilled guard who can get to the basket and finish. He rebounds some but shows up most on the offensive end as a scorer.he looks for openings and takes every opportunity he’s given. He can shoot from distance and can connect from the free throw line and get to the basket. He look sharp after the catch and can shoot well with a defender on him.
Tate Herrenbruck, 5’4, G, 2020, Sacred Heart
Herrenbruck is an underrated guard who is a pest on defense and talented on offense. He gets a solid amount of playing time and can create openings for himself and others. He is a team-first player who just knows how to put the ball in the basket and do so in a way that is all his own.
