Continue ReadingSix-foot-1 all state guard Nick Wittler led his team to 20 wins last winter. Now he’s earned a D2 scholarship and is the likely Preseason Class B Player of the year entering his senior season.
Wittler earned his way to first team all state averaging 23.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.1 assists a game shooting 45 percent from the floor and just under 80 percent from the foul line. After a fantastic season Coach Brian White told the Capital Journal…
“Nick is a special player. He changes the game in so many ways. He is always trying to get his teammates involved in an unselfish manner, but he also as the ability to take over and dominate a game with his scoring ability.”
Nick is working on his game the old fashioned way, getting to the gym on his own and putting in the individual work. It’s worked for Nick as has playing 17u basketball.
“I’m playing for Sacred Hoops this year and working on my game in the gym on my own, a lot of work on finishing better around the rim and becoming more crafty and getting my ball handling better as well” Wittler stated. “Playing with my summer ball team has helped me develop more as an all around player and learn to play and move without the ball much better.”
Sulley Buttes was 20-5 a year ago and they return three starters. Wittler will be joined by Grant Johnson and Jett Lamb as experienced players hoping to bring a title back to the Chargers.
“We should bring back a good team next here for our high school team we have all the pieces we need,” Wittler said. “My goals are to make the state tournament and make a run with my team in it.”
Wittler is a three sport standout and it’s the recent basketball scholarship offer that has made news.
“I play football, basketball, and golf,” Nick said. “The University of Mary, I recently picked up an offer at their camp and I’m not talking with anybody else so I’m just trying to get my name out their right now.”
Wittler was very excited to receive the offer from the Marauders at their camp.
“It’s great to know that I have the opportunity to play basketball somewhere and I feel like that first offer really takes some pressure off so it was an amazing feeling.”
