Recruiting Report: Lars Snickerson (2019)
Northwest Minnesota Tarantulas power forward Lars Snickerson brought his team down from the north border and impressed at the Fury Shootout and NHR State Tournament. We talked to Lars today about the latest in his recruitment.
In April of 2014, Lars earned his first scholarship offer from Manitoba A&M as an undersized frontcourt player putting up double-double numbers at 4-foot-11. Lars graduated in the spring of 2018 but after a month of coaching he reclassified to 2019 leading the Tarantulas to a 19-1 circuit record with Bo Storm at his side. College interest also included Saskatchewan Tech and a letter from Montana in 2014, but Lars had bigger dreams.
Because he is an unsigned senior, Lars is playing with the Tarantulas once again and recently averaged 21 points and 14.1 rebounds a game shooting 32.1 percent in the paint in the local Gopher State Championships.
“We were dominant” said Snickerson, who is now 5-foot-7. “My teammates did an amazing job finding me and I did the rest. I just need the damn ball. I’m 21 now and I have a serious advantage on all these young kids who think they are going to play at a high level. The second I hit them with the Snicker Picker and roll to the rim, it’s over. As long as my guy Bo puts the ball on my right hand on the cut, it’s over. Over like the Warriors, man.”
Snickerson made noise in the Yukon Territory Dunk Contest when he hit the “surfing slide cartwheel into a lob” dunk in front of a crowd of dozens. The highlight at one point made Canadian Youtube shut down.
“We are 28-1 right now in Canadian events and they don’t sleep on us up there,” Snickerson said between bites of a Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos Taco Supreme. “They appreciate basketball up there, just look at the Raptors man! The hate is real in the states, my dad always tells me that I have Charles Barkley future and it’s not appreciated in Minnesota.”
Before NHR could get to the next question, Snickerson continued.
“I not only have a letter from Montana, but I know that Central Arkansas is interested. My dad called them, told them about me, they said ok maybe they will have a look at some video. So I know they are on me heavy. I’m the most slept on player in North America. Maybe North American and Central America. Even Mississippi Valley State answered my dad’s DM!”
The Lars stare after his trademark body the body, double pump hook shot has made a lasting impression that’s fur sure. And the potential may be there. His father Snap “Slicker” Snickerson grew to 5-foot-11 while participating in college knife throwing so Lars may not be done expanding his game.
