DJ Steward Talks Texas Official & Potential Visits
The recruitment of Whitney Young 2020 point guard DJ Steward is starting to heat up as we head into the summer! Steward is a top 30 prospect in the nation. This spring with Meanstreets he averaged 24.1 points per game while shooting over 50% from the field!
He took his first official visit over the weekend to the University of Texas. PrepHoopsIllinois talked with the Whitney Young standout about what he did on the trip!
“They showed me all of the different buildings on the campus. The practice gym, weight room, coaches room, academic center, dorms, arena, and more. It was just a beautiful campus and everything was just close together in walking distance.”
What were a few highlights of the visit?
“Meeting all of the players. They were all cool and we connected really well. Being able to get up and down and play 5 on 5 to get a sense of how it would be playing. Just enjoying the good weather.”
Steward has spoken highly of the Longhorns coaches for a while.
“It was good spending time with the coaches and getting to know who they really were. We’ve all developed a good relationship. And they talked about how I wouldn’t have a direct position (point guard or shooting guard) just letting me play my game. Score in bunches while also getting my teammates involved. They talked about how they believe I would be an immediate impact player from the start if I work hard.”
What is the next step in his recruitment?
“Just taking it smooth. Trying to see where I could potentially take unofficial visits now.”
Three schools Steward mentioned he would like to visit in June are Louisville, Indiana, and Illinois.
