This weekend I covered the 13th annual Best in Basketball Summer Invitational at the Phhacility in Phx, AZ.

33 varsity teams and one JV battled it out for 3 days. High level competition brought out the best in everyone. Teams learned a lot about themselves in some tough games and hopefully they can take it with them into next weeks live period.

Here were some of the rising juniors standouts that are clearly under the radar:

Braeden Roberts SG 6’0 175 North Valley Christian Academy

-Thick downhill guard can handle it and defend. He is a capable perimeter shooter but is best going to the basket. He is a very good passer and has an unselfish nature about him. He is very shifty and changes directions quickly and can absorb contact and score it or use the floater. He can create his own offense and shoot it off the bounce from the perimeter.

Thomas Hastings PG 5'10 150 Basha

-Fast improving pure PG. He can shoot the ball with the best of them and has a good pace to his game. He never rushes the play and is an extension to the coach. He is a cerebral all-around player and is best off the catch from deep. He can pull-up and pick his spots on the court to score it. You almost never see him take a bad shot. He will be one of the reasons the Bears do well in 6A this year.

Carson Biggs SG 6’0 160 Desert Mountain

-Consistent shooter from the perimeter is getting better each year. He can pull-up off the dribble and is a confident player. He has a good looking stroke from the 3pt line. He is competitive on defense and a smart passer/play-maker.

Kennedy Rodgers PF 6’4 Goldwater

-Long lefty undersized forward with some budding post moves. He is primarily all left hand but still very efficient and effective. He is a fluid ball handler and athlete and rebounds well in his area.

Will Miraglia SF 6’2 Phoenix Country Day

-New player viewed has deep range on his jumper. Can get his shot off quickly and the next one is always going in. He moves smartly without the ball and has good length and upside. Makes good passes and can get into the lane and score it. He does prefer to shoot it from perimeter and will need to get stronger

Amarei Hunter SG/SF 6'1 Desert Edge

-Super athletic end to end athlete with great speed. He is a terror on the break and is great on the glass and collects steals in bunches. If he can improve his shooting moving forward, he will make his game more balanced.

Demaryea Cox PF 6’4 Desert Edge

-Bouncy defensive forward. He has good length and springs to block shots and rebound the ball. He is an almost all paint scorer and can improve his strength and skill but has nice upside.

Jake Clapper SG 6’3 Desert Edge

-Highly skilled scorer and facilitator. He can pull-up off the dribble and sees the court well. He is one of the reasons that the Scorpions should start making noise the next two years.
