Zion Richardson is close to a decision
Zion Richardson of Frisco Liberty/Marcus Smart YGC36 (Adidas) is the top unsigned swingman remaining in the senior class. Over the course of his high school career, Richardson has been offered by Boston, Lehigh, Louisiana Tech, Rice, Sam Houston State, and Texas State. But now the 6-foot-4 guard is currently down to a final list of three schools: Campbell, Western Michigan, and Wofford.
IN ZION’S WORDS
Campbell: I really enjoyed the visit. The coaching staff loves my ability to shoot, guard, and get out in transition. They see me as a player that can come in right away and do everything on the court. I love how they cater to their athletes and are very devoted to them. I got the honor to attend their Cammy Award Ceremony, which is an athlete recognition ceremony like the ESPY’s. But overall, I just love how the athletes support each other.
Western Michigan: Coach Hawk came in to watch me workout last week and it was great. He let me know that I am the type of big guard they want and need. He loves my game and is all about relationships with his players and believes I can be a major threat to the MAC conference. I think they are a good school both athletically and academically. The competition will be tough since it’s in the MAC league, which is a very good league.
Wofford: The visit was great! I really enjoyed myself. The coaching staff is all relatively new but keeping the same tradition. They want me to come in and bring my versatility to the game early to make an impact as a freshman. They believe I can be a real threat of course offensively but also be a major factor on the defensive end. I watched them play last year in the tournament against Seton Hall and Kentucky and they want me to come and help them get back to the tournament every year I’m there.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Richardson will be committing on Friday, May 10th at 6:30 pm at Fowler MS. His decision will be based on the best place for him to excel both on the court and in the classroom. He also wants to go where he knows he will develop as a player and be put in the best position to go pro.
Our guess at the moment would most likely be Wofford. However, Campbell and Western Michigan have shown Richardson a lot of love. It will be interesting to see where he decides to continue his academic and athletic career next Friday.
